MPG reading?

Featured Replies

Now, I am not used to having all these little gadgets at my finger tips. I was looking at my mpg reading the other day and it was changing every now and again like I would expect, but what I didn't expect is that it was saying 160 mpg at times  This was mostly at 1500 rpm, 4th gear at 40mph. Is this normal?:o

It's all based on the "throttle" position. Watch it when you coast down a hill - I think it goes up to about 500mpg before it goes to --- (ie using no fuel) :D

i've seen 1000's:eek: i think...then it blanks or maybe it was hundreds:S

The average setting is the one to keep an eye on, not the instant mpg. ;)

Got 57.4 mpg today on my way home from work - my highest yet.

I used to average around 50mpg in mine with my "progressive" driving style. SWMBO drove it home one night (approximately 80 miles) and clocked a stonking 72mpg

Mustn't drive too economically, its not good for the turbo ;)

The instantaneous reading is a rolling average over the last 400m. The max reading is 199.9mpg, then it goes to ----.

I'm avaraging around 44mpg at the moment.

Best I've had on the 5 mile trip home from work (across the city) is 63MPG.. it was 1am and no traffic so I was using the cruise control :D

No chance of that - it's been sold since last June

One night had over 70mpg (Average) between River way Newport and East Cowes! The read out you have is what you'd expect on a light or no throttle in the current mpg readout . Worst I had on the island was about 42mpg average and I wasn't hanging around.

Mine seems to get on average about 50mpg, and that's all manner of driving. If I'm sensible... really sensible (read boring) then it'll do 60+ on a good run. The problem is, as it's got such a fun factor with the turbo ooomph, it does encourage harder driving.

My last "daily driver" was a Rover 420Di and that genuinely did 53mpg all the time, regardless of driving style. Fortunately after a year of owning it, I realised that the pipe and slippers really didn't suit me :D

I also find that the computer on the vRS is slightly optimistic, as if you use a calculation (there are several sites on the net for this) to work out your economy from the litres of fuel used, it is usually slightly less than you see on the dash.

My tdi with learner regularly gives 45-50mpg Best I get around town is low40's but thats London and my style I guess! :) On the motorway can get 52-55mpg at a steady 70-80mph. Drop that to 60-70mph and can get over 60mpg! But wheres the fun in that! Most Ive got is close to 500 but thats as you coast....
