Changing chrome trim around side windows to black sportline (dechroming)

Featured Replies

For anyone else who's thought of doing it, I can advise that I asked my local skoda dealer parts dept for pricing on the black sportline window trim, he said it's two pieces (top and bottom) each side of the car and his total came to over 400,best discount he could do got it to 380. I thought I'd check with a second dealer parts dept for the heck of it, they told me 8 pieces, and weren't sure if that included the rear quarter panels, and I stopped him when his pricing got as far as £780... I asked kopacek.com (super skoda) but they said they don't supply it.

I found one superb at a breakers with the black trim, but it had already been sold.

My local wrap place will wrap them black for £200. Not really the solution I want but I guess I'll have to go with it to dechrome

I’d say it’s top and bottom for each door and then quarter light trim as well. Estate needs the roof rail covered as well. Then front bumper trim and grill. Wrapping gloss black is a much simpler solution and if done properly should last quite a while.

If you wait long enough the chrome trim around the doors will fall off!

I want to do the same (wrap the chrome).  Does anyone know how that would work with the front grill sensor? I want a sportline grill so that can be wrapped but that sensor is shiny and i take it cannot be touched? any solutions?

I would say wrapping is prob your best bet.. that or else spray with plastidip. never tried it, but there are plenty of YouTube videos on it..

I would just wrap the chrome on the grill surround and slats along with the front bumper strip and see how that looked before changing the grill. Only reason I haven’t done mine before now, is, I’m not sure I want black wrapped roof rails. Don’t think chrome rails and everything else black would look right either.

Guys, this is something I intending to do. Plastic coat the wheels, Remove stickers, wrap or cover the badges. Then those troublesome chrome window trims. Has anyone successfully done this yet. I want a totally black car.

Yep. Wrapped at the same time I got tints done. Wrapping the chrome window trims was an extra 150.

I've used plastidip (motip equivalent actually) few days ago (on my skis). This doesn't give you a glossy black finish, but something in between 'matt' and 'satin' black finish. It's better to have this in mind before buying a can of spray paint. ;)
