Wheels

Folks,

Anyone know where I might get steel rims to fit the Karoq, so I can fit winter tyres?

I called the local dealer in Aberdeen, but they only do alloys and the spare wheels are only for <50mph.

Just looking for a couple of rims for the front, but depending on price, I’d take 4 and swap them out to save the alloys.

Thanks ❄️

Find another dealer that’s willing to put a bit of effort in. The correct part no for 16” steel wheels is

5Q0601027CJ03C
You can also get steel wheels with winter tyres from the likes of mytyres. Com
Please don’t be tempted to just fit winter tyres to only the front wheels.

Not much in the way of Karoq rims out there if you’re looking for alloys, but there are lots of other types out there in Fleabay land such as Yeti, Q3 and Tiguan that fit the bill nicely.  They’d be cheaper than steel wheels as well.   And go for all 4 unless you want to loose the back end when going round a bend, just fitting winters to the front is not a good idea.

But be aware the quest for rims becomes addictive.  This is my “standard” search screen for the 2 or 3, or 4, more rims for mine.  As you can see, there are a lot of ducks to line up.  From memory 5x112, ET45 and 7j 17, it all gets a bit overwhelming.  :D

Cheers Kenny, don’t suppose you have a part number for the 17” rims? 🙏🏼

17” steel wheels are hard to come by.

16” wheels with 215x60 tyres is a recommended size for winter wheels for a Karoq.

@Simon79  Surely they know that Steel Spare Wheels limited to 50 mph are when fitted as a spare.

ie, the 3 alloys and tyres are on the car and the Steel Spare wheel.

4 steel wheels with the appropriate tyres speed / load rated on the car are not limited to 50 mph.

The tyres on them that John Clark Skoda Aberdeen might have will possibly be an H speed rating.  (130 mph)

@Carlston

might be along with the links to the places with Steel wheels available and maybe in the UK so delivery can be while the snow is still here.

Yeah, I think that was just ‘as supplied’ as a spare c/w tyre, they’re limited to 50mph.

Probably not the cheapest option, if you were to buy just for the sake of getting the wheels.

For some reason they seem to have chosen not to supply steel wheels as a spare. Not sure why, as any part would be ordered as requested, so it’s not like they’re stocking them. 🤷🏽‍♂️

@Simon79

You just happened to speak with a muppet there.

If you were to call Victoria Garage Maud then that would be someone that knows their arse from their elbow that you would speak with.

Maybe look on Ebay and see who can get wheels and tyres to you.

There might be some in the BRISKODA for sales.

Paisley Freight could normally deliver, but then there is a snow situation currently.

John Clark Skoda Specialist Cars Dundee used to have sets of 4 Steel Wheels and winter Tyres every winter inside the front door for sale.

Not seen that for a few years now though.

They are much more helpful IME in Dundee than in Aberdeen.

I have ones identical to these on my wife's Karoq SE L 190 TDI.   https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/329584918085186/?ref=search&referral_code=undefined

Well they were identical when I bought them a few years back but they're now wearing Dunlop D5 Winter Sport which, in my considerable experience of using winter tyres, are better than the Pirellis.

These are much more reasonably priced, even cheaper than mine were but they're in Edinburgh.  https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/164810725073260/?ref=search&referral_code=undefined

Having said that, ISTR that Audi dealers were charging c. £1300 for these when they were new so the first ones in Aberdeen are about half the original price,  if they're still available....

More in Aberdeen, posted a day ago https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/503414674401192/?ref=search&referral_code=undefined

I am using 6j 16" steel wheeels with Dunlopwinter sport tyres on my Karoq instead of normal 19"8j wheels.

I bought them for my Yeti a few years ago from Mr. Winter tyres. He sold me them for a Yeti but actually to be correct the Yeti is supposed to use 16" 7j wheels!!

They are perfect fit for Karoq as per the spec for winter tyres, but the supplier above said they were the wrong size!! Wonder what he would have sold me for the Karoq?

Not sure what they cost now but the wheel rims were £50 each, and you picked a tyre to fit from budget (not recommended) to top performer.

Now on third winter and hardly worn

6Jx16 ET43 is a standard size on the Karoq.

6.5Jx16 ET43 is a non-standard size on the Karoq.

It's not a good time to buy rims and tyres in the UK at the moment, due to problems with lorries getting across the channel and Covid-19. Hence, limited availability and high prices.

Yeah, that’s what I’m beginning to think about. Snow has been mad here and gritters concentrating on main routes. Will call around local fitters in the morning. Even Michelin cross climate would be a decent alternative at the moment and I would probably leave them on and sell the <3500mile factory fitted tyres.

It was crazy yesterday here in Forfar with cars not even able to drive along totally flat streets.

Usually cars and vans get about OK but just now the ice under the snow is an issue and brand new cars / tyres....

Mercedes A200 types, VW Tiguan and the worst i have ever seen was a new Vauxhall Insignia that turned off the ploughed and salted main road and could just not move anyway other than sideways.

I am using Michelin Alpin 6 and they are very good.

My Shogun is on CrossClimate SUV's and they are just OK.   It is sitting now covered in snow as the driver side wiper stopped working as the snow built up below the bottom of the sweep and it went wonky.

4 inches more to be cleaned off the car this morning before i go any place.

I have had my car nearly a month and struggled to get out of my street last night. I live on a bank, parallel to the main road which is steeper. I have to turn on a camber between parked cars to get out. This is where it starts to slide into the parked cars if not careful. I have only done 50 miles since getting it home.

My previous Volvo was fitted with Michelin Cross climates which were fantastic, but not had time to get any fitted to the Karoq yet. Looked last night online but there was little selection which is understandable.

A question for the 2 wheel drive DSG owners, is there a snow setting or suchlike. On the Volvo you had to select 3rd gear in manual mode for snow, but the Karoq wont let me select anything higher than M1 at set off.

Do you have a mode button beside the gear selector, if so press it and see if a snow mode comes up in the options.

No there's no snow mode on mine, eco, normal, sport and custom. Thought custom might help but it doesnt

Sales of AllSeason and winter tyres are going to hit the roof this year!

And all this snow everywhere else, in our part of the Heelands we’ve had the square route of naff all recently.  Roads are all clear, even the ones that haven’t seen a gritter in decades, and even with temps down to -10c through the night the ice is melting with the sun.   No fun in the snow on our roads, obviously where allowed. :o

Eco softens the throttle response although probably not enough for the snow conditions you are talking about.

I don't think the 2wd versions have a snow mode, but the DSG is linked to the traction control and Cross diff lock (braking a spinning wheel) and seems to cope well, but obviously only when appropriate tyres are fitted.  Now that low rolling resistance tyres are fitted people are discovering they are more useless than standard summer tyres in cold weather.

Unfortunately buying winter and all season tyres in February is very difficult due to many being out of stock.   It used to be possible to order winter wheels with tyres from Germany etc, and couriers only took 48 hours, but the Brexit twits closed that route as VAT and customs surcharges and extra paperwork made it unviable.  Skoda Dealers don't even hold stocks of appropriate tyres so can't even pay more and have job done quickly there either.  You might be lucky if you search the internet tyre companies but I suspect they will only offer what they have remaining in stock, but they will probably have removed any discounted price so might end up paying £200 extra for set of 4.   If you have no luck, put a note in your diary for August-September when prices are lower
