Columbus SATNAV outdated and no update?!

Featured Replies

~FIRST POST~

My Skoda Superb MKII Elegance DSG has a Columbus satnav, I’ve often found that whilst driving on newer roads (that have been in existence a good 3 or 4 years to my knowledge) my satnav does not think they exist. I’ve put in my serial number on the Skoda website to check for a map update and there aren’t any.
I’ve also contacted my local Skoda garage and they said they’d “raised a technical” which I think is when they don’t know the answer they submit something to higher up.

it’s not all that bad as it’s only occasionally it doesn’t know a road, I just worry that if I’m trying to get somewhere I don’t know I might be missing out on a huge shortcut.

Does anybody else experience this and/or found a fix?

Welcome :)

As you have a 2011 MK2 Superb, you probably have a RNS-510 style Columbus. The latest maps are V17 which are 2020, these are available on DVD. A dealer will probably charge some insane amount (£200?!), otherwise there are various copies online or if you're savvy, you might even find an ISO to download. Just be wary of 3rd party sources as there is no guarantee they've not been messed with...

The Skoda website is only for newer cars with MIB style headunits so it's not applicable to your car I'm afraid.

Hope that helps,

@langers2k thanks ever so much for your detailed response, it’s really appreciated!

If I were to buy a DVD with the current maps on, is this something I would need to keep in my disc drive at all times, or does it install them so to speak?

I think I’ll certainly take a look at finding one! - is there a way of finding out exactly which Columbus unit I have without taking it out?

Cheers,

Charlie.

If it looks like the image below, it's an RNS-510 style:

It has an internal hard drive so it should copy the maps from the DVD to itself. This can take 40 minutes but it should do it while you're driving around, once it's copied, you can remove the DVD.

@langers2k bang on!

I don’t suppose you by any chance help me find the right DVD? I’m not too great at this kind of thing.

They appear to be correct, yes. And even if they're copies the data should be ok.
