Water/ice in compartments under boot floor

Recommended Posts

Good morning

I have a 190 4x4 estate on a 66 plate. Opened tailgate and lifted boot floor to find both compartments at rear of polystyrene insert full of water/ice. Every where else is dry . Totally puzzled as to where so much water has come from. Any ideas at this early stage?

If not take as much trim out as you can and get into the car and, with boot and doors closed of course, have someone direct a hose at the boot seals, lights etc to work out where it is coming through.

It may have been accumulating for years.

I’m not sure if the physics quite work, but could road spray be getting in to the well via a poorly fitting bung and then condensation be forming on the boot floor and dripping in.  More likely a leak form above though… I’m currently playing with this (click) for a leak in my LEAF, may be worth a punt around the lights etc

do you own towbar? i had the same problem after (3rd party)towbar was retrofitted, someone forgot to screw in some bolts or caps(don't know the details) but after that fix water in boot was gone.

Thanks for responses. I will look closer at the weekend but am still puzzled by no dampness on any of the boot carpet. The dealer the car came from did fit a Skoda towbar in early October but the water in the wheel well insert is recent. The tow bar fitting may be the culprit as no water before fitting but only in last few weeks. I will contact the dealer after a few tests this weekend with the hose. Thanks again
