Picked this up the other day, been looking at these for a while now, I wanted the Fabia Scout but for a cheap city car this hits the spot.

Strut bearing is loose but it runs well, just driven it 500 miles since purchase and its purring.

Hey,

I have a 2006 MK1 1.2 htp with 121K miles and it runs great, take care of it and you will get many miles. Hope you got a good price!

There are two common faults with this model, leaking rear door seals and door lock mechanism.

Check the carpets in the passenger footwell to see if the carpet are wet as the rear door seals break easily.

As for the locking mechanism there are two signs of a faulty unit, when you unlock to door does the interior/dome light come one? If you leave the headlights on when the engine is off does the car beep at you? If the answer is no to both you have a faulty unit.

I got it for a good price.

As for the seals, yes. But the doors and locks work fine.

EPC light is on before ignition. Brakes are squeaking and I'll need to service it over the weekend. But it is nice, loving the space and drive, looking at the topic to change alloys as well as add cruise control so lets see.

Hey,

Good to hear about the price and locks, the seals are easy to do plenty of videos online and I recommend using Plumbers Gold.

I would get the EPC light looked at and car serviced before spending any significant amount on the car personally.

The car looks good in black and I have seen a few nice ones in dark red and light blue. Unfortunately mine is beige....

Just done over 500 miles on the car since, few short trips, longest drive was to Milton Keynes, car purred but a few things I noted.

2800-2900rpm slight droning/humming/zooming noise when pressing the gas, mainly in 5th gear, going about 50-60, car hasn't been driven past 65mph so I don't stress the engine.

 - Bearing? who knows...

IN NEUTRAL Clutch dipped  - engine rattling sound gone, Clutch Up - engine rattling sound --- maybe thrust bearing? Do these cars have dual mass flywheels?

Engine oil needs a good change, dip stick showing up as kinda dirty so its worrying. Also radiator takes ages to warm up so need to check for a leak somewhere.

oh, and my strut mount bearing has fallen off... so im getting that fixed. soon.

I wouldn't worry too much about the oil, even new oil goes black quickly.

It sounds like the thermostat may be stuck open so you should simply replace it.

It is not the clutch thrust bearing but usually the gearbox input shaft bearing. They can go on for many, many miles like that. The flywheel is not dual mass on a 1.2

Top mount bearing may have been killed by a broken spring. The top coil can break which then doesn't sit right against the bearing.

Oh, and don't worry about warning lights that show before engine is running.

(Except battery light which you definitely do want to see at ignition on).

Yeah its terrible, I'll upload a photo once its on the ramp. Picked up an AM (aftermarket) part so lets see how long it lasts... Mechanic said he would have to cut off the stabilisers if theyre rusted, i suggested WD40 and to let it sit for a while so lets see how that goes.

Any tips on what to look out for, so far the car is really driving good, only noticeable noise is the aforementioned 'input shaft bearing' so im really glad. Oh wait, and the brakes, they're really  singing... I think its a duet now so we'll see who's taken the stage when I have a look at them over the weekend.. Are brakes easy to DIY?
