Where do I get a new jack (at a fair price) for my octavia

Featured Replies

Hi

I have just bought a 1.4 se l dsg 2016 and love the car.  It didn't come with a spare just the repair kit.  I am sourcing a full size spare and will need a jack. Would any generic scissor jack be ok or do i need a specific skoda one.

Thanks in advance

Generic scissor jack may not have the correct top to engage with the designated points on the sills. The profile of the jacking point is not flat. Plenty on your favourite auction site.

I was also thinking about buying a jack, and when searching I found bottle hydraulic jack which are small and (maybe) easy to use. I have not used any of this bottle jacks before though, so any thought would be good to know. A point that I noticed it the bottle jacks head is very narrow, so this can make dent in the car body, am I right or this is me being negative.

I'd stick to the VAG jack, they aren't expensive on eBay... As a random example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401656650593

This certainly can happen unless you can spread the weight and use a proper jacking location.

Yep, I agree. And spreading the weight would not be easy. Anything you put between the jack head and the car body can move and make a disaster

Can’t you fit small hydraulic bottle lifter? The OEM ones are also known as “widow-makers” for a reason.. :)

I doubt a small bottle Jack will be any more stable...

I'd only use either for an emergency tyre replacement. Even then, ideally on flat, solid ground whilst being suitably wary the car could move.

The one time I had to use the widow maker on my MK2 Octavia, it worked perfectly and I survived 🥳

I went to my local Skoda dealer, admittedly a few years ago after sourcing a full size spare and was able to purchase the foam insert with appropriate tools and jack. From memory at the time it was about £25? A word of warning tho, you must make sure your full size spare has the same rolling circumference as your alloy. I ordered a steel rim and fitted tyre, the rim was 16” the tyre was a 205 55. When first used in anger about a year ago I found that this combination certainly didn’t work with my 17” alloys with 225 50, despite using the companies online comparison tool. Had to change the spare to a 205 60 I think to get as close as possible to the same circumference.

Last word from me and what I did.

Managed luckily to get a brand new alloy same as fitted, Velorum for 50 squids. A new mid range tyre fitted 60. 205,55,16.

A vw jack, 20 and wrench, 10.

Hopefully will not need them!

By the way the spare fitted exactly in the wheel well, the top of the wheel level with the cargo floor.
