Just paid for my second year's extended warranty for my 1.4 

It came in at £162.70 which was lower than the first year!

I reckon that's really good value for peace of mind.

Bit of a no brainer alright, especially with the dreaded:

 

Error: workshop! Leave vehicle only when selector lever is in position P

Is the DSG covered ?  I thought I had read somewhere that it wouldn't be.

 

Edit: Seems it may depend when you buy the extended warranty as to whether the dsg is covered...

Surely the gearbox is covered by the warranty? It's a major mechanical component.

Agreed. My year 6 cost me £340 ish I think.... Yeah it's a gamble but I can rest easy..

I don't know but I have read elsewhere that if you buy the extended warranty at different times you get different levels of cover due to later purchases (later than the three year factory warranty expiration) using a third party warranty rather than VAG.  This could be nonsense, I'm just highlighting that it may not be as straight forward as it should be.

If you buy the extended warranty at time of purchase of the car you get a better warranty than extending it at the end of three years.

Don't know why that should be so but it is.

It does cover the DSG. They won't cover frictional material but that is standard as you can burn out a clutch.

This is normally not possible on a DSG, although with the dry box I would be careful reversing up a slope.

Reading through the file I attached it seems pretty comprehensive.

Took out 4th year extended warranty today for my 2018 1.4 SEL Hatch (manual) £188 for All Component Cover £0 excess up to 15,000 miles. I never normally considered this on new cars I've bought in the past but I haven't racked up much mileage in last 3 years (6000) so not sure if the car has proved itself and worried about possible yet to surface problems and also cost of repairs of the techie bits could be astronomical.

 

Warranty is not transferable and a full Skoda compliant service record is required. Lots of exclusions and crafty wording make me nervous though. That may put me off from renewing next year.

The bought at purchase is a factory backed scheme, and transfers with ownership of cars, so starts with known factory quality standard, as cars are as built condition.

 

Buying later, the condition of vehicle will be different for each new warranty, so they factor in risk of failure, and for high risk items often exclude them, or charge more to include them.

 

Some manufacturers include 4th year in their warranty at no cost, some 5th, and smaller number 6th and 7th years.  So maybe the question should be why does Skoda only offer 3 years and expect owner to buy 4th and 5th year (as opposed to say offer 1-2 years free, or option to buy year 6), as logic is those who don’t require a warranty are being forced to pay for it with higher purchase price (would someone selling car after 6 months care if warranty continues beyond another 12 months)

 

The cost of adding the 4th and 5th years warranty covering up to100,000 miles is about £630 for a Superb.

It would be interesting to know how many people have spent as much as that on repairs to their Superbs in years 4 and 5.

I took out the extra warranty when the car was new but in years 4 and 5 the only warranty claim was for a new battery so it was not worth it in my case.

I took out the year 4 and 5 at purchase and think it saved me about £1800 given the option I will buy a 7th year.

Haha ! I knew someone would ask that ! Some bits that I cant remember .... Complete tailgate  locking mechanism replaced. DSG Selector unit replaced. Honestly though I can see me having the car in another 5 years .... Just done 30k and still pretty much looks like new. I'm sick of paying £xxx per month for cars .... Next car will be something daft again like an F-Type R.
