Unusual tyre wear

Featured Replies

Hi all

My 2013 Fabia estate had a coil spring fail and when put on the ramps, unusual tyre wear was observed on both front tyres.  The tyres were only on the car about 10 months and have not covered much more than 12,000 miles.  I haven’t had this before and owned the car from Oct 2014 /5000 miles.  Mileage is 61,000 miles.

What make, model, and size are the tyres?

Judging by what's written on the tyre they're Bridgestone Turanza's and they've been killed by bad tracking.

The tracking alignment was fine.

They are 205/45, it’s a Fabia Elegance.

Is this on both sides or 1 as my friend had this issue and it was the spring cracked right at the top of the mount under the wing no noises or any other issues apart from the tyre wear, he had control arm bushes new track rod ends and a new hub bearing fitted but tyres still went the same way,  you would not have believed it until the  spring was removed from the car and could then see the fracture on the last coil part which was opening out on driving it seemed to  changed the camber of the wheel thus causing this sort of damage, if tracking was this far out you would notice the way the car handled

We did have a broken coil spring, noise started over a weekend and it went into garage on the Wednesday.  It affected both front tyres.

The car is carefully driven and is well-maintained.  Tracking was checked and found to be okay.  Just had one broken spring.

Maybe the broken spring caused the tracking to be pushed out. If so, the the problem is now fixed.

Keep a careful eye for the same wear pattern on the new tyres.
