Dilemma on MY VRS's Service History!!!

Featured Replies

Ok picked the car up friday and all was well. I was told by the salesman that the original service book was still with the previous owner:( and that they(lightcliffe) have serviced it and stamped it on 31k miles. However he said that it was serviced at DM Keiths in ossett.

I've rang DM Keiths, gave them the reg no and told them that the salesman at lightcliffe told me it was serviced at keiths from new.

"We have no record of that car ever coming to our dealership" he said and that "lightcliffe should have rang the garage where it was serviced and actually stamped it themselves once they had confirmation it has been done"

I think the lightcliffe salesman was telling porkys.:thumbdwn:

Ive just rang lighcliffe back and the bloke i dealt with is on holiday now(about right) and that they will investigate and find as much info as they can on the previous service history.

What do you guys think?

Also the seat covers which have been fitted as the old ones were tatty, have on the passenger side a cut about 1 cm long where it wraps around the bottom of the seat parallel to and hidden by the seatbelt.

Stone chips on the roof have been covered but appear blodgy and look like a half arsed effort has been put into them.

Would you think that is a reasonable excuse for warranty work to be carried out immediately or just nit picking?

Other than that the cars GREAT!!

Which Lightcliffe? Halifax or Huddersfield.?

Which Lightcliffe? Halifax or Huddersfield.?

halifax.

I read on here DM Keiths were pretty bad for customer service etc.

halifax.

Aahh! Bad choice mate:(

If you get a satisfactory response I will be surprised.

They seem more concerned about taking your money than keeping a customer.

Wish you well though, keep us posted on how you go on.

I would say that general wear and tear is acceptable because it's not a new car, and certain usage related blemishes have to be tolerated. But bodged up repairs of inferior quality are totally unacceptable, and you should pursue them to correct what you feel is poor quality. I may be wrong with Skoda, but I know that VW dealerships are able to print off the entire service and warranty claim history of a vehicle. If you are not happy, give them the opportunity to put it right.

Sometimes it's worth raising the issues with them directly prior to publicising the problems on a site such as this as they may have made a genuine mistake that they are quite willing and able to correct. On the downside they could perceive this thread as being bad publicity and make the opinion that damage to their business has already been done, if this is the case they may just become very unhelpful. I hope you get it all sorted out to your satisfaction, I'm sure the dealership would prefer you to be a happy customer who will return in the future. These things happen, and they need to be highlighted, but not necessarily broadcasted throughout the community before the dealer has a fair and timely opportunity to put things right. Good luck, I'm sure they'll be responsive

Whatever - put it all in writing as soon as possible! And record any conversations in writing.

A bit late to say this, but dont part with your cash until you have seen and verified the service record. See the book, phone the garage to confirm it is genuine. Not 100% foolproof, but unless the servicing garage is just selling stamps (and it is not uncommon) you have done all you can.

TBH That would be the priority when buying private. As its our first Used car bought from an approved dealer i always thought its the Peace of mind & Trust you would go on. Expecting the car to be HPI Clear for example and also have the full service record etc.

I've got the 30day/1000 mile guarantee !

I expected when buying from an approved used dealer the car to be bang on! and thats the impression i got from a family member as he's just bought a used jag from a dealer and veered me towards doing so.

I understand what your saying, but the whole idea of putting a thread like this up was to gain advice and information off people who have had the same experience and how they got around it. TBH the dealership and salesman was very helpful, its only the previous service history thats making my **** itch!

I'll see what they have to say about it and keep you posted.

Personal experiance Graham? know you rave about Hudds branch and my mate Nigel.

Personal experiance Graham? know you rave about Hudds branch and my mate Nigel.

The Halifax branch were, being blunt, useless and uninterested in me as a vag customer. Having bought 6 new vag cars since '99 and wanting a Skoda for the first time they SHOULD have been interested.

Hudds. branch were recommended, by Giles at Lightcliffe vw.

As it happens I used to go to school with Nigel, and he sorted me out a good deal with no fuss or hassle, and up to press their service has been faultless.

Alright a plug, but an honest albeit slightly biased one:D

nashchrs, try DM Keith in Leeds (stourton) they are excellent

I Got a phone call from lightcliffe today and they said they are still looking into it and to keep on pestering them.

Also he said if there is any work that needs doing just bring it down and they'll look at it.

I'm happy TBH they seemed very pleasant on the phone and returned our calls quickly and seemed very helpful.
