ACC misbehaving

Featured Replies

@alancha if I’m recalling your posts accurately (Basingstoke - Southampton return; Basingstoke - Richmond return), it seems that on the outward leg of your journeys ACC is OK, but the return it’s not.

So, could it be that somehow the problem resolves itself when left for several hours overnight? But why it happens in the first place is a mystery which, hopefully, will be fixed sooner rather than later.

Alternatively, maybe the car just doesn’t like driving to Basingstoke 😂😂

(sorry, couldn’t resist that one…)

And it is surprising how lightly you need to press the accelerator to override the AI; the indicator light in the Virtual Cockpit changes colour when on ‘manual override’.

  • Maybe it is another UK glitch related with you driving on the wrong side of the road (this is after all a german car :-) ) and the car didn't think you were overtaking and got confused...

  • I also have this issue. The car slows when overtaking as it detects the car on the left.  My previous superb never did this.

That would be understandable!

I don't know whether you've see the very interesting tests conducted by Tishout in the thread "Driving on the left/Driving on the right" - see

As you can see in that thread, I had been wondering if the ACC problem was related to the car being confused about which side of the road it thought I was supposed to be driving on.  Given Tishout's interesting findings, before both drives yesterday, I went in and manually set "Driving on the left", in the hope that the car might be less confused.  However, as I reported earlier, it didn't help and the behaviour remained unpredictable.

Sadly typical of too many of the Mk4 Octavia....

Just a thought on the car maybe being confused about the location, do you get the same problem when using the built in SatNav? Thinking that maybe the SatNav would know the location and somehow inform the wider system and hence ACC.

I don't know - I never use it.  Waze through CarPlay is my preferred satnav.

Just thinking compared to other sat navs how  does skoda sat nav add up ?any good or rubbish.

The best SatNav I've ever had is fitted to our Octy Mk4. The previous ones fitted to our two Yetis and Karoq were good, as was TomTom, but this one has better graphics, clearer instructions and the diversion around hold ups works well. It's just a shame I can't save favourites, but this should (?!!) be fixed when a software update is available.

Perhaps I should try it again but the couple of times I did it seemed to want to take me on some weird routes for no reason (I ignored it so I know the normal route was fine). Also, I don't think it gives camera and other hazard warnings does it, as Waze does?   On the other hand, I do like the way the map can be presented directly in front of the driver, leaving the Infotainment screen free for my wife to manage music etc..

One of the first times I tried to use the car's SatNav it tried to take me though a private horse stud, as the private road was shown on it's map.  Generally I find Google Maps better (or I'm just used to it); one thing I've noticed on the SatNav is the thick line it uses to show your route obscures any highlighting on the map showing traffic queues so you've no warning of them being there.

I would agree being able to put it right in front of you on the dashboard is neat, however the turn notifications then don't appear on the dash (they do if the normal dash is shown and also appear on the infotainment screen).

I guess that is so but if you are lucky enough to have the heads-up display they appear there.

The heads-up display is one of the single greatest features of my car, with the speed, the sat-nav direction and distance, the cruise-control settings and speed, the distance to car in front, the lane indications and (in some markets but not mine) the speed limit..

I do not really need to look at the dash or infotainment screen at all.

Now the 12 volt socket is in the boot, I couldn't use my old TomTom anyway, so it's great that the satnav is good. There is a USB 3 socket besides the mirror - do any satnavs have a suitable connector or is it for a dashcam?

Assuming your TomTom will run powered by USB, all you need is a USB-C to [whatever your TomTom has) cable.

I don't know as it's an old model. Last week I bought a road atlas from ALDI for £1.99 because if the car's satnav ever failed, particularly when it's using the shortest route, I'd have no idea where I was. However yours is a good suggestion and I'll check up on it. Thanks Jim

Hi, I am still having issues with my Acc on my VRS. I am in contact with Skoda customer care but they want me to take my car back to the dealer again for them to have it for a week. I know that there is a software issue as all of the new VAG band cars with ACC have the same issue. (Friends at other garages) It's linked to the right-hand/left-hand traffic fault as the ACC has only worked once and that's when it was on left-hand traffic. The car would pass cars ok, but normally it's stuck on right-hand traffic and won't left me pass cars but I can under take with the ACC on so clearly our cars are set to be driving on the wrong side of the road. Just hoping a software update will come out soon so it can be fixed.

I've contacted Skoda customer care too, but so far haven't actually managed to talk to them in person (I've missed their calls, so not really their fault).  But I am afraid they'll want to have my car looked at for a prolonged period, which we all know is pointless when it's surely clear that it's a software issue.  They just need to fix it once and then send out the update to us all.

Update on this...

Yesterday, I drove back from the Lake District to Hampshire (270miles), using ACC at various times along on the way and it always worked perfectly.  I don't think it's fixed - I just think I was lucky.

Anyway, today I finally spoke to Skoda Customer Service and I was a little encouraged by the person I spoke to.  He had e-mailed me asking me to book my car into my dealer so that they could "diagnose the problem" and raise a report.  I pointed out that the dealer had already had the car once and that I couldn't understand what they could "diagnose" anyway.  He agreed that there really wasn't any point as the ACC problem is something they already know about and are working on a fix for.  I was convinced he wasn't just saying this as he described the symptoms in more detail than I had given him, so clearly he was already familiar with it.    He's going to keep me posted with regular e-mail updates so that I'll know as soon as a fix is out.   But he didn't have a timescale for the updates for which we have all been waiting a long time already.

By the way, on other software problems, I do have the impression that, since the updates my dealer applied at the end of June, the system has been more stable.  I can't remember the last time I had to re-boot the Infotainment system or log into it again as used to happen from time to time.
