Oil leak and bulb failure.

Featured Replies

Fabia MkII Monte Carlo 2012 diesel 1.6

Had my Fabia for just over a year now and over that time an oil patch has gradually appeared on the road and I’ve been too stupid/lazy to do anything about it but the car is running fine and the oil level looks good every time I’ve checked it.
I need to get it serviced anyway and get the problem checked but anyone else had a similar issue and what was the problem?

I’ve added a photo from underneath the engine, taken from underneath passenger side if that helps. I’m hoping it’s something simple as a replacement gasket.

As a separate and less serious problem, my light bulb failure light has come on. (Comes on after a few minutes of driving)
This coincides with the indicators flashing quicker than normal but when I check all the bulbs are fine and flashing at the correct speed.
I’ve checked all my bulbs including headlamps, side lights, indicators, DLR, fogs, brakes and even the bulbs for the reg plate and they are all fine. Have I got some

dodgy connection? Anyone else had this issue? I’ve recently changed my headlamps but using H7 Halogen like it says, they’re Osram Night Breaker which are more powerful than the old ones but didn’t think that would cause an issue?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you're not losing any oil then it could be gearbox oil which would be annoying.

Annoying in a chuck the whole car in the bin kinda annoying? :-) or it's going to break soon kinda annoying?

Might be well worth giving the area a good clean and then observing where the oil/fluid is coming from. Splashed around, it makes things hard to pinpoint.

I think the idea behind a small leak is regular top-ups will keep you going but a gearbox one will be much harder to regularly refill then the engine. If the leak is very slight, you might be able to use one of those additives that promise to stop leaks. I have never gone past using a stop leak method on the coolant system of any car in the past so couldn't advise you on any worthy brand, it is down to recommendation and your personal choice, really. You can get sealants for engine and gearbox leaks, along with diffs, power steering, etc but the best fix is-well, fixing it!

It will break eventually, if not remedied.
