New Fabia vRS first impressions

Featured Replies

Ok, so picked up my vRS on Sat. Very happy, runs fine. Like the torque, power, comfort - solid on the road, especially today through the puddles. Love that gurt intercooler!!! Don't like closing the bonnet! and how do you open the doors all at once - instead of using that button on the driver's door. Overall, I'd say it surpasses my expectations. :)

You need VAG-COM

Gurt intercooler?

Do you have the anti-hijack enabled which locks all the doors when the car is moving over 5mph? If you do, then you can unlock all the doors at once by giveing the door handle a single pull (assuming all the doors are locked). Alternatively you can press the unlock button twice on the remote (assuming a single lock only unlocks the driver's door on yours?).

Either of these are settable using VAG-COM :D

VAG-COM?

what is this new devilry?

Gurt intercooler - big intercooler!

Not had a turbo before - simple minds...

Cheers, D

VAG-COM is a piece of software which allows you to configure certain aspects of the car. All you need is a laptop and a VAG-COM compatible OBD-II lead. :D

The intercooler isn't big :P You wanna see some of the front-mounted intercoolers (FMIC) that certain members have!

Chris

Just press unlock on the remote twice, this will open all the doors:thumbup:

You can hardly see the SMIC - you can see the radiator though.

My FMIC is a little smaller than the radiator, very nice :)

Glad you're enjoying your new purchase though & I hope you'll enjoy it for quite some time (I sure am :) )

yep, I conclude I'm well chuffed with mine. Worth the 3 month wait. Power delivery is extremely impressive, in fact I reckon it would beat off my previous Subaru WRX03 in the mid range given a chance!

Build quality seems solid, sound system has a nice interface but sound quality is dull. Will need to install the Alpine I think:thumbup:

Is there a way to open the boot from inside the car... can't find a lever, have to remove the key from the ignition and press the button  but I can live with this;).

I admit dropping the bonnet is a bit scary hehe, didn't feel right doing it. Just the same as the VW Golf with that catch that shoots out and back in on closure.

Big thumbs up so far:thumbup:

Shouldn't it say "Bristolian" rather than "Briskodian" under you name, eh, DJT?

You didn't have PPP then? :)

You didn't have PPP then? :)

nope, never went that far but my car was putting out 265bhp/265ftlb without it, with ninja backbox and green air filter. It was a great car but got bored. Nearly considered taking it to TSL for an upgrade but 2.5k for an extra 40bhp didn't seem worth it (and trying to get the insurance to cover it!)

I've driven a WRX with PPP and it was a much improvement. 5th gear was like being in 4th. Looking back I should have bought it but life goes on. The Skoda is better in different ways

Not from inside no, but if the CDL is unlocked it will work from the button on the tailgate from the outside.

I have a classic Impreza Turbo (UK standard) and a vRS Fabia, and I'd just like to say that while the vRS feels quick, and indeed is quick in certain gears in its own power band, there is no way it gets near the performance of the Scooby, like for like.

First gear in the vRS is like a van - change out of it asap. First in the Impreza you can hit 30mph in approx. 2 secs.

2nd in the vRS, again, you're struggling to get traction, and need to get to the better range of 3rd... 2nd in the Scooby and you can hit nearly 70mph.

3rd - maybe 60 in the Fabia, nearly 100 in the Impreza... you get the drift.

I have to admit, the Scooby's surge of power is spread out more than the vRS, and doesn't seem to kick you in the back as much, but if you dare to look away from the rapidly approaching horizon, you realise the speed is much, much greater than the vRS.

That said, they're different horses for courses, and the vRS can do things the Scooby can only dream of. :)

Oh, and I had a Golf GTi TDi 150 etc etc pull away from me on the A5 last week when out in the Scooby, off an island when I wasn't concentrating... the next island I was, and virtually pushed it out of the way by 50mph, before obliterating it, mid-range.

The fabia is nout like an impreza.

Duck_pond try changing your tyres as I dont seem to have any issues with getting tracton in 2nd. (in the dry, wet is a different story lol)

I live in the UK - it's always wet ;)

But you're right, next time round I'll be putting better tyres on it. Same is applicable to the Scooby, not for wheelspin, more slide... the original P-zeros I had on were like the tyres you get on Matchbox cars! :D

In the wet, the vRS is more troublesome than the Celica I used to have!
