What have I actually got in relation to front assist

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2016 Octavia se l which is great. Having had it for about a month and doing lots of searching on the web, I am still unsure what front assist features are operating. Every thing is ticked ,see pic. But I have seen no evidence of these while driving, is this normal?

Thanks in advance

If you get too close to the car in front the mileage on the cluster will go away and a little picture will appear telling you to back off. It’ll also beep at you loudly if it thinks you are going to hit the car in front. It’ll also do an emergency stop for you if you don’t take action but I wouldn’t rely on that bit.

It also slows you down/speeds you back up when approaching a vehicle in adaptive cruise control.

You can have front assist without adaptive cruise control - which is what I expect the OP has.

Unfortunately, if you do only have front assist, the radar unit fitted is very unlikely to support ACC :)

Can only go off the info I got!

Yeah this car doesn’t have ACC else that would be in the menu too, it only has front assist which does as I described above.

Thanks.  I had the same question on a Fabia Estate Mk 3 - Front assist wasn't mentioned in the specs from the dealer, but if it's in the options menu, it must be fitted I guess.  I'm not going to deliberately drive into something to see if works though...  I need to warn my wife what to do if it comes on - am guessing it's a bit terrifying if it deploys and you're not aware of what it's doing.

Hi

I found that the front assist on my car only gives visual and audio warnings as stated above. I eventually saw that when travelling too close to the vehicle in front particularly on a motorway a small graphic is displayed which would easily be missed anyway. Eventually the close proximity warning was displayed ie a red cross and audio beep when an approaching car got too close. Either way on my car no action such as breaking happens automatically. Hope this helps.

from what I can see, it only applies the brakes as a very last resort, so it's just that you haven't got to that point yet.  I don't think there is 'front assist without automatic braking' from what I can tell (albeit I've only been looking at the Mk III Fabia).

I've had mine apply the brakes. I also get occasional false alarms from it.
