You won't be able to get the back half of the sleeve off until you get the clamp off it, see my edit in the previous post about hacksawing the bolt

Re-using that original clamp was very, very optimistic if a leak free system was intended.

I doubt it, that's well after both lambda sensors.

I think you need a 45mm one, measure the exhaust pipe outside diameter to be sure.

got a quote between 45 and 70 to sort the exhaust sleeve. does that sound about right?

I'm guessing that that was an indicative quote based on what you (remotely) told them what was wrong, at the end of the day that exhaust needs fixing if you are to keep on using that car, so you don't have many other options open to you.

They might have included replacing the next section of exhaust as that is usually cheaper than spending a lot of time and gas on welding in bits to close it up correctly.

If £70 is too much then you're back to DIY which can be messy with exhausts due to lack of access and no hot spanner available.

So was there anything wrong with the front bit of the middle section, or was all of the carnage just the sleeve clamp?

it looks like part of the middle section has rusted off.

i bought some exhaust repair kit and fixed it that way.

Still not clear to me. Did you ever get the whole of the old sleeve clamp off, both sides of where it rusted/broke through?

Is the exhaust repair kit like a bandage you just wrap around?

it does look like the middle section goes insode the front section. i didnt think it was till i had a proper look at it.

no, i still didnt take the other clamp off, i just left that on,

i got his

but instead of using paste, i bought some high temp sealant so it stays flexible and not harden up.

i have seen the bandage one and was going to get that but it looks awkward to use as i had limited space under the car, i have watched youtube video of the bandage and it is very long so i would struggle to keep wrapping it but you need to dunk it in water for awhile.

I can't picture how you've managed to fit that without removing all of the old sleeve clamp, but to be  honest I'm now giving up on ever knowing what it looks like under all the debris.

I think that will prove to be a rather short-lasting repair but hopefully I'm wrong.

:)
