New scout owner need information about gearbox/front diff

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

Recently bought a 57 plate scout manual diesel, trying to do a full service, have couple of questions hope someone could help.

1. Does the gearbox have 2 drain plugs ? One in gearbox and other One in front diff ?

2. so if I drain both of them and just fill it from the gearbox fill plug to fill both ?

3. what oil / fluid I use ? 75w-90 ?

thanks

Not sure about the drain plugs, but if you have the 6 speed manual box the correct oil is VAG part no G052171A2

Typo

Just swapped the box on mine and chasing the same info. ETKA says that the main box needs the oil mentioned above. Can't find any mention of the oil for the angle box. They are independent of each other. The fill port for for angle box is to the left of the drive flange on the driver's side. The empty port is at the bottom below the drive flange. Both boxes are full when the car is level and oil runs back out of the fill port.

Just found a post on another forum which suggests that the angle box uses the same oil as the rear diff, G-052-145-S2. 0.9L in both. For what it's worth, Darkside Developments sell this part no. as front and rear diff oil.

Cheers . Just found out the same information. Angle box needs a different fluid then the gearbox . Few have used good 75w-90 diff oil for the both with no issues .
