Mervyn Stewart offer

Featured Replies

Mervyn Stewart Belfast sent me a letter today. Apparently i'm 1 of 100 customers which they are prepared to sell a car to at cost price +

I've heard of this sort of thing before, but usually, you would need to go to the dealer and ask them to show you the price so that you can see the difference to normal 'on the road' price.

The problem is that you may only get rock-bottom book price on a part-ex and there's probably little or no chance of any haggling.

Another downside could be that they can't shift a particular model of car, so the 'deal' may not include a specification you would otherwise be interested in.

Get down there and have a go and let us know how you get on! :)

Its a bit of a con really.I had this deal offered to me and I could get a better price off a dealer who wasn't doing this deal......Do all dealers get the same "Cost Price"

It all depends really on the dealer wanting to sell you a car. Try this offer and then another dealer....................You may be suprised.....Good Luck

No harm going in and having a look, if your serious it might be worth while going to another dealership first to get a ball park figure ;)

Dealers all get better cost prices the more they sell and if they meet their targets etc etc. Thats why if you are very lucky a dealer will be willing to sell the final car they need in any given period at a loss as it will mean a better discount on others and therefore more profit!

I'm sure someone here who works in sales will be able to explain it better.

Irecieved a similar letter from Mervyn Stewart last year, but i didn't investigate further. There was a lot of discussion about it on here though. I don't think the dealers where willing to divulge cost price until you were speaking to them in person.

I wonder do they just make cost price up??

Here's the formula for working out Cost Price.

Cost Price = Manufacturers Listed Unit Price.

Now here's the formula for working out what the dealer actually paid the manufacturer.

Price Dealer Paid = Cost Price - Quantity Discount - Sales Target Exceeded - Bulk Order Discount - Future Orders Promised Discount

Cost Price +
