Can you force the iV to use the petrol engine.

Featured Replies

I am picking up my new (to me) Superb iV on Saturday.  On Sunday I am going from Bedfoed to the centre of London, so well beyond electric range.  Is it possible to force the car into petrol mode, to save the battery for driving in the city?

Yes, allegedly.

Yes, there are different settings within the Hybrid mode. One setting allows you to maintain the battery percentage.

Early days with mine but I found that if you are in 'Sport' mode then the default setting seems to be to use the ICE predominantly and also to charge the battery, then go to 'e' mode and you're running just on battery.

Looking at the online Owner's Manual:

Under 'Select Drive' and 'Operation':

Two options:

Put it in hybrid and set the battery icon to max. It'll run the engine and recharge the battery at the expense of fuel economy. When you get to the city put it into hybrid auto or e mode to use more battery.

Put it in sport for max performance and a slightly slower battery recharge to 50% then drop into hybrid auto or e mode when you get to the city

In hybrid auto it'll use the battery under normal acceleration unless you floor it. At 40+ in hybrid auto it'll bring the ice in more frequently

Hi,

this is dead easy, put it in sport mode once in drive tap the gear leaver back and the display will change from D to B in this mode (not listed any where I can find) it will act like a non PHEV ie the engine will charge the battery. Does knock the fuel use up a bit if the battery was a bit low to start but will do what you want. When you get close to your destination change to E (battery) mode and it will just use the battery. I always drive in B mode even when only on electric as it uses engine breaking to charge the battery.

Now I have it, I've also found that if you select E Mode, and then hybrid, you can select a minimum battery level.  When battery reaches this, it will go full petrol.  Setting the level to 100%, forces petrol from the start.
