Another step in modernising my Fabia for the 2020s... a middle rear headrest.

20211125_124727.thumb.jpg.d96ccbf57c947b865a486c3cefdffd63.jpg

Considerations for future modernisations or luxuries:

  • Double DIN head unit with DAB, Bluetooth and all the other fancy gizmos.
  • Leather covered steering wheel
  • Rear interior map lights
  • Sunglasses holder
  • Better seats (potluck to see if I can get something local AND cheap!)
  • Accent interior parts with a wee drop of silver...

So anyway, that's all for now. :)

Tidied the Fab up in prep for going away a few trips over the coming weeks. It's looking quite good for a nearly 17 year old car.           Oh, an

So, got the insurance sorted for the Fabia, so it's back on the road as of Tuesday.   In the meantime, it found itself a friend. Well chuffed with this Vectra, not sure if I'll make a projec

This was a nice little cheap upgrade about £9 off eBay and 2 mins to fit 😁inCollage_20211125_175106209.thumb.jpg.4b7d20d8a1d64325ef91bca78036d054.jpg

That's originally the gearstick I was going to go for but I found the Sport one that came with the car more comfortable. So I just swapped the gaiters instead. :)

Big thanks once again to @DieselMonte for sending this over along with the headrest guides. I'm now able to move the seat up and down to my wee heart's content. :D

350 odd miles knocked back like a dream in the Fabia (besides nearly running out of petrol) involving a run to Portpatrick, Stranraer, and other associated places.

Nice little thread you got going on. Tidy looking motor and nice to see a car being looked.

The sunglasses holder is a great little mod. Love mine and really easy to fit too.

Thank you mate. It's just needing a wee bit of TLC. Mechanically it was looked after by the former owner(s) but the bodywork has been a wee bit neglected.

Just need to get my hands on one now, luckily I don't need one for the black headlining. :)

So my handbrake had been beginning to go sticky like that stupid soft-touch plastic/rubber composite they put on those MP3 players which resulted in it melting and sticking to anything and everything.

To remedy such a thing, I purchased this leather handbrake cover thingy. It matches the gearstick gaiter too! The leather was a wee bit squint but I've fixed that when finishing it off before leaving the car.

The car is due a thorough interior clean soon because as you can see, it's absolutely disgusting inside. I may clean it this afternoon.

Not directly related to my Flamenco Fabia but I thought one of my late night purchases would interest some of you here! They are 1/87 scale in size, so just a little too small for my model railway (1/76, OO/HO scale to others) but they do make excellent display pieces.

As an additional note, I'm aware of missing photographs from here. They were connected via my website and had been removed and then re-uploaded. Some came back and some didn't. I am unable to fix this currently as I don't have the correct permissions to edit the post.

Where did you find these models mate please I've been looking all over for 1 😂 preferably in gold 😁

They were on eBay at the time. I don't know if the seller has any left. Sometimes the larger 1/43 ones pop up too. :)

So one of my coil packs announced today that it working was not within the 5 year plan, so fast forward a few hours, and I'm back on the road with a new coil pack on cylinder 2 and one bought as a spare. Massive thanks to @Wino for giving me a wee hand with fault diagnosis this afternoon. :)

Really smartens the wee thing up. They're from Simply Car Mats or some company like that. They do a good job too. :)

Cheers, Lee. They've got a good finish to them and seemed to absorb a spill from a mate's can of juice the other day on a day out. :D

I think it was one of those Energy drinks. The mat doesn't seem sticky so I think we're alright. :D

So there was a thread in the Mk1 Fabia section relating to headlight unit replacements that I may have accidentally hijacked... ANYWAY, I bought these from CarParts4Less or whatever it's called. They're basically a division of ECP (Euro Car Parts) and a wee while later these DEPO branded ones arrived. Hopefully this should be it until the end of the wee thing's life. The bumper was also refitted a lot better, making sure panels were flush and gaps consistent.

The before and after is pretty shocking as well, even with one of them polished back.

Had a bit of a dicky sidelight bulb on the passenger side that required a door to be slammed shut in order for it to turn on. Since I had fitted new headlights, it was time for a trip to Hellfrauds to get a set of bulbs this afternoon. Set me back just under £6 for these "whiter" ones, but I don't grudge it much. Topped up the coolant too since it was beginning to drop below the minimum.

Snapchat-219804261.thumb.jpg.f460ce685c730de5373ef83f9fa1bd31.jpg

Have a quick comparison, with the right-hand side of this photo being the "before".

20220116_153443.thumb.jpg.ed7d0f6125816e81008c9e1f5cca3d7f.jpg

And with both bulbs in...

20220116_153818.thumb.jpg.b1bc3102ae7540797f3321b2eb3b422a.jpg

Finally, I got a snap once it had gotten a tad darker... they're more of a bright white and less of the purple that the camera has captured. Apologies for the mildly blurry photo, my hands are rather shaky.

Next job is fit the replacement indicator bulbs I have spare since my original bulbs are shedding their orange film like a snake sheds it's skin. :D

Where does that control mount on to, Ryan?

Onto the steering column on the opposite side from where the key goes in, Lee, otherwise the volume twisty doodad is upside-down. I'm not quite sure if I'll use it as of yet, but it's a handy gadget to have.

The Dacias in the family both have similar stalks on the same side as the key in a typical Renault-esque fashion. Our Duster is lethal though since it looks as if it has steering wheel audio controls but they're actually for the cruise control! :o
