GPS not working - help with wiring

Featured Replies

Hi, I bought a 2016 L&K model around October last year and the satnav worked fine for the first couple of months then just stopped working. and has shown me stuck in the North Sea since then. Reading up on this has led me to believe it is most likely the Aerial/GPS base, mounted on the rear roof. With the weather finally getting better I went to take it out to check the part number before ordering and found one of the four connectors was not connected to anything and of course I now wonder if this has something to do with the GPS not working. I have felt about and cannot find another loose connection to connect to, therefore I'm thinking this is something for maybe a different model or manufacturer and it is not needed on my Yeti. So before I order a new aerial, I wanted to ask if anyone can confirm if this spare wire should be connected and where I might find the other end or is it never connected on the Yeti and I should not worry about it and go ahead and order the new aerial?

I believe the violet connector is for the GSM antenna that is only used if the car has telephone prep from the factory.

The blue connector is the GPS.

Thanks Kenny, that's good to hear, I was hoping it was something like this.

Maybe another screen failure?  Seems a developing issue with c2016 Amundsen2 models. Further problems reported on YOC

As I recall, mine had me permanently parked in Dunkirk.

After a protracted hassle with Skoda UK (full marks for dealer support) I had a new Amundsen2 unit fitted FOC under my 5 year warranty in 2020.

thanks for the reply, how does this affect the satnav, all the other functions work ok, like the radio or telephone, it's just the satnav that doesn't work, it shows that it is detecting 0/0 satellites... are you saying there is a possibility this fault could be something to do with a screen fault?

When the screen failed, music via the SD Card was defaulted to the first album, (A for Adele) as swiping across the screen was ineffective.

The preset radio stations would swipe across but again, none would not lock and the system defaulted to a station that was actually not one of the presets.

The electrical specialist technician at the dealership downloaded about six pages of diagnostic guidance from Skoda UK and was unable to detect the full set of satellites (does the number 11 come to my mind?).

Now here comes the demo of my ignorance of such things..............I think the technician said that his guidance sheets pointed to the failure of a second

aerial/signal consolidator located behind the main unit?    Anyway, one of whatever was ordered from Skoda UK and subsequently fitted - but with no positive effect at all.

Technician's conclusion - it was the screen itself that had failed.

Subsequently, the new Amundsen2 unit supplied by Skoda UK has been faultless.

Interesting to hear, thanks for the info. it may well help me in due course as I try to work out where the fault lies. I've ordered up a gps aerial as a first go at sorting it.

Hi Scott

If I understand correctly, everything works except that the GPS position is stuck.  The most likely cause is that the GPS antenna (within the multiple antenna assembly) or its cabling are faulty, so you are getting no satellite reception at all.  Various people on this forum have reported antenna failure, usually due to water ingress.  So I think that replacing the antenna (and having a check of the various connectors whilst you are at it) is the most logical next step.

The GPS only uses a single roof-mounted antenna, i.e. there is no fancy multiple antenna switching / diversity setup as used on FM.  The GPS antenna has a tiny pre-amplifier immediatly next to it, which has a low power DC feed.

Hi Austin, yes, everything is working except the gps which shows 0/0 satellites and the car stationary in the North Sea. I've ordered a new antenna now, so hopefully that will sort it and if not will investigate further. tbh I use google maps on my phone all the time anyway, it just annoys the heck out of me and I'd like to sort it.

An update, my first order of a new antenna never arrived but after ordering a second and fitting it, the gps now works, so it looks like the gps antenna was broken.
