Why? Looks rubbish, cheap and nasty. Are they trying to undercut Skodas?

What has gone wrong? The Lupo was great I thought.Surely even badge snobs won't waste their cash on a fox.

VW's version of Rover's Citicar thingy wotsit from India:thumbdwn:

I saw them a while ago in France and thought they looked a bit naff. I just assumed they were a cruddy Euro car that we wouldn't get. They have all sorts of wierd cars over there, Lancias that look like they have been designed by a GCSE student and Alfas that would never, ever be bought in this country. I was a bit surprised to find that the Fox was replacing the Lupo, which isn't the best looking car in the world but it has a bit if style about it. The Fox looks older I think than the outgoing design.

I went to have a look at the fox as a possible buyer to compare it with our 107. Basically it cost more, and the build is not going to be much better than the 107 as is technically a toyota (so quite good).

There is this idea that everyone wants to beat higher road tax and buy 1 litre engines. But that is infact not the case, the amount of money you save on your£40 a year road tax, does not make up for the fact that your car is small and slow.

Forgetting this - if you were after a super mini what would you buy - fox/107/C1/aygo etc.

On the city rover - we had one in on part exchange. A very clean 54 plate traded at just over £2k!

They did a test on the Aygo, Fox and 10 on Fifth gear last night. Aygo won hands down on everything and I tend t agree - it looks more expensive than it is which is a good thing and also it is quite a nippy little mover too.

I had a poke around a Fox when picking up some bits from my local VW dealer.

And what a bitter disappointment. :thumbdwn:. The Lupo was a classy little car, the build and quality of interior materials was comparable with those in the bigger VW models. But get into a Fox, and theres nothing VW about it. The plastics are all very hard, the switches feel really cheap, the air vents are boring and conventional, and even the dials don't look VW at all. The gearchange felt very inaccurate and notchy, the clutch had no weight to it and wasn't consistant in pressure throughout its travel... need I go on?

For the money, I would honestly prefer the AYGO, or something like a Swift.

Common VW, stop messing about.

I'm really surprised by the limited engine range. The Lupo at least had the mad GTI and incredibly economical TDi, the Fox has two dreary petrol engines, neither fast or particularly econimcal. Saw one in Frankfurt last year, thought it was some anonymous Korean car 'till I saw the badge.:thumbdwn:

Think it looks pretty good, certainly on paper. 'tis pretty cheap to buy, insurance is low, suspect those engines will be sturdy and (IMHO) all plastic interiors feel cheap and tacky so it won't be loosing any points there as far as I'm concerned...

Rob.

people forget that the Fox was not designed for Europe, but for Latin America markets, so is designed with their needs in mind. It came to Europe because it was easier to adapt a product from Brazil to handle European roads rather than design a totally new car for what is not a major segment for VW.

The review on 5th gear was interesting, the Fox interior looked very bland and dated. Economy wise IIRC the fox was bottom of the league during an economy [email protected] MPG. The car was up against some good competition and the Kia Picanto managed 48MPG over the same distance.

I think it looks smart. Plus it's got a smoking pack for £15 option !

I'd definately go for the Diesel model for 15 quid ! ;)

but it's a cheap car! you pay or what you get!

Exactly - an Aygo!;)

Didn't want to re post in my thread but what is the point of a cheapo VW when they have the skoda /seat arms?

They are trying to undercut their very own 'cheaper' brands.I thought VW prided itself on'it costs a bit more but its a bit nicer than Seat and Skoda'.

Well this ugly duckling looks out of place. At least a Lupo looked like a solid VW

Interestingly that Kia Picanto apparently is the slowest depreciating car you can buy?

I travel through Europe quite a lot down to Italy, and while we Dont get the Lancias here (no great loss, as they are not pretty) I've never seen an Alfa that wasn't available here?

Alfa GTV 2.0 V6 Turbo?

It's a cheap VW, to fill the gap created by the demise of the loss leading Lupo.

It's already being mass produced for S.America so has cost nothing for Europes' budget.

Your average small model vw buyer will still buy it over an Aygo/C1/ 106(?) buyer because of the badge.

It will not have a diesel engine, because that will tempt buyers of Polos'.

There will be a 'Dune' model though...god knows why!

Since it now appears new drivers don't drive old cars (especially youngun's) it strikes me that VW have offered something to get the young lady new drivers onto the VW brand. Cheap to buy, insure, and probably run what more could they get?

It lloks to me like a shrewd move by VW.

Of course its not a family car, more of a city/new driver/second car type of car.

Lets not also forget, it comes with the perception of VW quality...so it should still be intact in 2 years time (unlike the overpriced Peugeots)

to compeat with the Panda 4x4 without 4x4 lol

Although I work for Peugoet I am not their biggest fan.

The 107 is a nice simple car - 5 gears forward and 1 backwards. 3 or 5 doors (fox only comes in 3) electirc windows (fox does not have them on entry level) 60:40 folding seets (fox has 50:50)

1.2 fabia would be a better buy....

Unless you wanted a smaller, cheaper car with a VW badge on it...

For a deposit of £1500 and £99 a month you can have a brand new 107 on a passport scheme (PCP) which after 3 years' date=' you can have another one (or whatever you want from Peugeot). So the 'perception of VW quality' is not the case because when bits start falling off the Peugeot you can give it back.[/quote']

Not everyone wants to change their car every 3 years, unless you're talking to a dealer that is:rolleyes:

Having seen what a 3/4 yr old Peugeot (106) looks like, I would still say the quality is way of a similar aged and market segment VW. That sort of comparison (because that is all you have) carries a lot of weight and maintains the flimsy French car reputation.

Ahh I see what you mean, we get the GTV here but not with that engine. I thought you meant they have different models than we do not different specs.

That engine was available here in the 164 though it's not a particularly powerful lump, and the turbo robs the engine of it best feature - the sound!

I nearly bought a GTV with the V6 2.0 turbo in right hand drive form too, you could get them built to UK (RHD) spec with the euro engines that weren't available here if you went across the channel! Why they never made them officially available I'll never know but there are a few about. I ended up buying a 3.0 V6 Alfa 75 instead cos I couldn't bear the thought of front wheel drive in a sporty car!
