Retro fit reverse camera?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to retro fit a reverse camera to the Kodiaq?

Ive a 2021 se (poverty) spec.

I've had it done on my SeL using genuine Skoda parts, as have a few others here. Can't speak for having it fitted to the SE though.

Having it done at a dealer is not a cheap option, mine quoted £520 last year. I had mine done at an independent and the cost to him of buying the kit from Skoda was £127.

There's a guy in Leeds who a few people here have used to do this job. His prices are somewhat cheaper than main dealer prices and it's all done properly.

Once the camera is fitted, it then needs to be coded to your car and apparently not all main dealers know how to do this.

Thanks for the info. Cheers

Leither, if you need any info regards fitment in Leeds drop me a pm & I'll send the lads details.

He's very helpful and will tell you all you need to know.

^ +1 He did a great job with my reversing camera.

I had mine fitted by Professional Retrofits near Nuneaton (right next to the MIRA test circuit). Paul did a great job, and there's a nice walk along the canal while you wait, as it takes several hours.

Official VAG parts and registered on "the database" apparently.

Several hours!

Mine high-line camera was  professionally fitted in less than 3 hours for £280 @ a skoda dealership.

How much did yours cost?

I think it was £350 inc. VAT. (2019 Scout)

Three is “several”, isn’t it?

More than two but less than many. Three in my books would be a few, though.

Looks like you got in before the price stated in the link you posted of £460+vat, regardless of how long taken to install, they're a great add-on to have.

Won't a €12 Ali-Express camera do the job or have VAG done something to make you have to go to them?

They dont need "coding to the vehicle" they pick up all the commands they use from the canbus signals, reverse gear selected, steering angle sensor etc.

What is the benefit of being "registered on the database"?

I appreciate that someone wanting to pay to have the work done will not have the same choices but there is a lot of difference between €12 for something discreet & functional that replaces the rear door handle or number plate light and £250, £350 or £520.

The impression I got was that it's considered a factory/dealer fit option so covered by the 3-year vehicle warranty (or at least, doesn't invalidate the warranty!). Hope I never need to find out.

Price of most electronics/tech stuff at the moment is high, and supply chain is very constrained "because Covid".

You've made the statement about fitting a cheap Chinese camera on a previous thread on this subject, but it would appear that you don't own a Kodiaq and when I questioned you about whether you did, you failed to reply. How can you reliably state that a cheap, knockoff version can be fitted and will work if you've never actually fitted one to a Kodiaq ?

I doubt many of us know the difference between a canbus, a can't bus or a double decker bus, so we have to rely on taking our car to a garage that does have the knowledge. As I mentioned earlier, I had a genuine part fitted by an independent garage, which once fitted, had to be coded to my car via a computer link to VAG in Germany which incurs an additional fee.

I'm sure you know a lot of stuff re cars as you seem to have demonstrated in other threads, and I'm also sure that if you could demonstrate in laymens terms how to fit and wire a cheap camera which will then work in conjunction with the inbuilt infotainment screen as a properly fitted Skoda camera would, then the community here would be eternally grateful, me included if you'd told us earlier.

Its news to me that I did, reliably or otherwise. The question mark at the end of this cut n paste might give you a clue.

You seem to have some agenda but I'm sorry to say that I am not going to bite & play the game.

You're just playing on words now and I have no agenda except to help people.

You've inferred  in this thread that a cheap camera will do the same job as a Skoda camera without coding it and you stated in a previous thread that a cheap Chinese camera will do just that, whether you choose to remember it or not. I for one hope you're correct but you choose not to back up up your statements by explaining how this can be done.

In the interests of others, why not share how this can be done rather than just offer what is useless information without backup.

I for one would have liked to know how to buy and fit a £12 camera and not have to code it and I'm sure there's others who would too. Of course, a £12 spend is better than any charge a dealer might levy, so why not share how to do it and earn the eternal gratitude of those that would save ££££s by following your instructions ??

This is not a game, I don't do that, but I do say that if you have kosher info, then share it. In other words, put up or shut up.

Sorry, not coming out to play.

Your mind works in a strange way.

I will take your advice.
