Missing functions on 2019 VRS infotainment?

Featured Replies

This is probably a stupid question, but is there a significant difference between what's shown in the owner's manual vs what's actually available in terms of info on the UK infotainment system?

I've read that the lap timer function isn't available as standard, is this also the case for the 'sporty' details like boost pressure etc?

Also, I can't seem to find any option to bring up navigation or even 'next step' directions on the Maxidot, is that not available either?

The owners manual covers all spec levels so it's likely there will be an amount missing from any standard car.

Still, on a 2019 vRS I'd expect it to have the lap timer, performance monitor (boost etc) and navigation to work on the maxidot :)

@RobABarker Yes I agree with @langers2k that the VRS should have all the necessary bells and whistles, but it depends on the car.  First things first - what MIB [or entertainment system] do you have?  Is it a Amunsden or a Columbus?  A photo of the unit will tell us.  Then we will need to see the firmware version of the MIB system [press hold MENU, go to Software Version and Version and take a photo].  Then we can advise.  Suspect that your MIB system will need a 0478 update for Amunsden.  Some of the things you mentioned can also be enabled on the car via ODBEleven or VCDS [or you can take along to a member near you with that software who will hopefully be able to help for beer money].

I'm pretty sure all three things they've mentioned should be stock on a vRS. They certainly seemed to be on mine...

For the performance monitor:

- press either 'car' or 'home' >> 'vehicle' (depending on headunit)

- press 'selection' in the bottom left

- choose 'sport' or similar

For the lap timer or navigation on the maxidot:

- press the 'back' button a few times (right most button on the MFSW)

- scroll up/down using the right scroll wheel

- when you see lap timer or navigation, click the right scroll wheel

You'll only get turn by turn nav if you've got a destination set and directions active :)

If that doesn't work, take some pictures or a video so we can see what you're doing/seeing

Keeping a close eye on this an my vRS doesnt seem to have these functions either.

Okay, quick update. Here's a photo of my infotainment unit and the software version, as well as a shot of the 'selection' menu, which lacks a 'sport' option.

I've managed to get the route directions up on the Maxidot display, that was my fault for not having a route set! However, there isn't a lap time option.

Using CarPlay or Android Auto you can get to some of these vehicle details. Under the My Skoda app, you have My Settings, Dynamic and Sport. Each show different functions but include speed, pressure, G force, Braking etc. I'm guessing they have removed it from the standard head unit in favour of the My Skoda App. There is also an update to 0478 for this unit.

So - there is a firmware version available to you for your MIB Car Radio System.  You have an MIB2.5 Amunsden system.  I will PM this to you seperately.

In terms of getting Sports Mode information on your screen, its a FeC [Feature Code] that will need to be enabled by your dealer.  The lap timer should be there in the Maxidot and if not, this can be enabled via VCDS.

So mine is displaying the same as the OPs car.

Do you need to be in 'Sport' mode to get the performance monitor?

Is this only on the VRS models or all DSG with sport mode.

Agreed, mine is the vRS, but i was wondering if the information would only be displayed when in sport mode :)

Will give it a go on the way home tonight and report back. Where is the performance monitor located in the infotainment unit.

The performance monitor should be available regardless of driving mode :)

Very surprised it's not present on your vRS, I had always assumed it was standard for a vRS...

I think i need to go speak to Skoda Grimsby lol

Just done a bit more searching, seems like only the original vRS 245 'edition' and the later 'Challenge edition' got the performance monitor.

The other vRS models including the 'normal' 245 don't seem to get it :(

you need the Challenge for this or the ‘original’ 245. It is not a codable feature at home unless you have a lot of VAG coding tools, it’s enabled via SWaP using ODIS.

It should be possible to enable the lap timer using VCDS or similar though.

C'est la vie

@varaderguy

What is the difference between the 0475 and 0478 versions?

I have a 19 plate 245 saloon and it is at 0475.

TIA

Skoda don't give a proper changelog, however the TPI 2049459/10 states that:

Quote

Customer may complain about one of the following phenomena:
• ABT display failures (black screen).
• MIB switching off, restarting – with a connected mobile device with the IOS operating system.
• MIB without sound, or sound cannot be controlled, voice control malfunction.
• MIB sporadically switching off or gets frozen while calculating route or while navigating.
• MIB does not allow the lower menu bar to be automatically hidden in the navigation mode.
• MIB does not allow the activated additional information window to be closed.
• Virtual Škoda Surround not working.
• Radio is playing when customer comes to the locked vehicle.
• Deactivating auxiliary heater pre-selections.
• Changing time indicator.
• The hands-free function is not available; displayed is the indication „Phone not available“ and Bluetooth does not work.

Workshop findings:
• The customer statement can be reproduced.

Technical background
Faulty SW MIB Standard (Amundsen, Bolero) in vehicles manufactured in the period from CW 22/2016 to CW 45/2019.

So it should fix some bugs around those areas :)

At the risk of having repeated information, how difficult is it to update the firmware?

Pretty easy:

Easy with caveats....(@langers2k is too quick for me)

See my article on how to do it.

Great Thanks

Can the update be done at home?

Where can I get the file(s)?

TIA
