Infotainment Saving

Recommended Posts

Hi, new to this forum and have just taken delivery of a Octavia Estate SEL - love it.

However, the infotainment is frustrating to say the least. My biggest gripe in particular is I can’t get the car to save the settings I select! Why does the car seem to reset every time I turn it on!

for example, setting the mirrors to auto adjust, setting climate control to Sync to both sides etc - I seemingly have to constantly set these to what I want.

Does anyone know how to get around this! Thank you!

Welcome to the forums, and your new car - good to hear you're loving it. What colour?

IIRC, the Sync for the climate control can't be saved, which is frustrating, and for the mirrors I had to unlock the car with one of the keys, set the mirrors etc. then lock it with the same key. After that, using the KESSY seems restore the saved settings. Repeat with the other key for different settings.

It took me several attempts and reading the user manual (& re-reading a few times) before I got mine sorted - perhaps says more about me though

Quartz grey colour.

the infotainment looks great but isn’t intuitive at all. I have been using the same key every time I have driven the car so not sure why it doesn’t seem to save.

I only have a guest profile in my car and haven’t set up anything individual - could this be why? I would expect any car to remember settings that are set without the need to set a specific user profile!

My car is currently back at Skoda for the the futile mph/kmh fix so can’t check but as I remember this is a common trait of the new system. It won’t remember settings. Setting up a profile does help with some settings such as seat position, mirror position.

The replacement hire car I’ve been given, a new ford Kuga, makes me actually appreciate the octavia infotainment system.  It is terrible and very clumsy to navigate around.  So it’s funny what you get used to, as initially I thought the octavia one was a little hard to work around.

Setting up a user will probably help, but I agree, I'd have thought it would remember without that. Unless, maybe, some settings were associated with the key at delivery at it goes to those each time now.

@Ajdude - I wonder if we'll end up choosing cars based on the infotainment system, a bit like smartphones (Android vs iPhone) or computers (Windows vs. Mac)? Sorry, danger of veering way off topic....

create profiles, everything is saved there. this works every time, however takes time to set up, registration via phone(myskoda app) etc.

seat/mirror positions must be saved to each key, once you lock the car with seat/mirror are saved on that key

I think it can only be saved to your user in the Skoda cloud, not to USB. Theory is that if you log in to a different car, preferences get copied to that car - would love to try it with seat and mirror positions as well as radio favourites.

But whatever I do/try the setting for the DCC is always in "nortmal" mode after each restart.

Sadly that's how the system works until they get the message and provide a software update that fixes the return to a default state.

For me, this is the single biggest problem I have with car.

Every single time I drive anywhere I have to go through a series of "pre-flight checks" just because the car remembers no settings from the last time you drove...

since people are getting dumber every year, cars needs to be smarter and safer + emissions.

All safety features by default every time are ON,
driving mode always defaults to NORMAL,

these you cant save in profiles..

=====

These are the steps i do each time i start the car:

1. select my profile, which is prompted every time on screen, so i press ok

2. select drive mode= individual(so that all fakery is off and rest is in sport)

3. disable lane assist

Before i got the car i thought it will be frustrating, but its like routine and once i push the car there comes the smile

Get what your saying, but surely it isn’t unreasonable to expect your car to remember the settings! Most people don’t share there car with 100 people so it seems totally illogical that ylu have to run through a ‘pre-drive’ checklist every time ylu get in.

I’ve been driving 20 years and it’s the first car that hasn’t been clever enough to remember I want my clock to display the time in 24hrs!

All I do is switch off the start-stop system. And that's it. Lane assist is already off (:inlove: was worth every eur), I drive off with normal profile. So only two clicks for me before I start driving.

Is there any way to disable this welcome screen with profile select?

Isn't there another step as well:

0. Wait for infotainment system to start-up sufficiently to respond to steps 1-3.

It was done by a coding specialist here in Slovenia. I think you even don't need a SFD token to change this.

Bum. I don't trust the nearest equivalent to my location, as they royally buggered my boss' California.
