Fabia Rear Washer

Featured Replies

I know from past posts that problems with the pipe coming astray are common on the Fabia but my rear washer has developed a slightly different problem.

The spray is less powerful than usual and the jet of fluid rotates with the wiper, so it sprays the boot lid as much as the glass. When I look, there's nothing obviously loose but I may not be looking for the right thing.

Is this a DIY job or should I just take it to a dealer? My car is about two weeks outside its warranty :( .

I would be very interested in your remedy for this as SWMBO's fabia has developed exactly the same fault.

Keep us posted.

Yeah me too. It only started doing it last week though. :(

Is there any leaking at all? Could be the jet has become loose.

Nope :(

Just the washer jet rotating at the same time as the wiper blade instead of pointing vertically and the wiper blade moving around it!! :thumbdwn:

Yep, mine is the same.

Surely the jet should be static (pointing upwards) and the wiper moving? Somehow the two have seized together and the motor is moving more components than it should.

Has the securing nut under the plastic cowling perhaps come a bit loose?allowing the jet to become loose?

Just a guess, Havent actually taken the fabia one apart before but would guess it is fairly easy to strip, free it or grease it, should it be required and put it back together

I've had a helpful explanation in a PM. I won't name the member because he can't post from work and I don't want to get him into trouble. Thanks to him anyway.

The remedy is to get your rear wiper motor replaced under warranty.

There is a repair kit available from VW for it (but not from Skoda), in the event of them refusing to do the warranty work.

The problem is that there are two metal pipes that go through the glass, one inside the other:

The inner one stays still (the one that carries the water and holds the washer jet) and the outer one is what turns the wiper arm.

The inner and outer pipes corrode together, which snaps the inner pipe off inside, so both pipes turn around together.

You might want to copy this PM into the thread so that the other people can benefit from it.

Cheers

What are the chances of getting a warranty repair done when my car reached its third birthday on 26th April?

This is weird. Mine has just started to do the same thing. (Y reg)

Does anyone know the cost if fixed by a Skoda dealer?

thanks

Martyn

The PM was from me...

Anyway, if you can't get the replacement motor assy from Skoda under warranty, then pop over to your local VW dealer and check out part number:

£13 quid

This *should* solve your problems

A spray of WD40 seems to have done the trick on mine. Hopefully it has cleared the corrosion before the pipes break.

The jet of water now remains static rather than spinning round with the wiper
