I know this has all been covered before, but I'm just about to place an order for a pair of Philips Vision Plus H4 bulbs for

In order:

Yes, yes, yes, nothing at all they are just as good

Thanks Jon, ordered the Osrams; will post an update when fitted / tested.

Oh' date=' and what's wrong with Osram Silver Star?

This review puts them ahead of the Philips Vision Plus:

Silverstar last longer then Visionplus.

Any chance I could twist your arms to enter a few words to this little tool?

Yup. Just as soon as I've tried them.

Ooooh. 99 posts. Must .... resist ... temptation ...

FWIW, I've just spoken to PowerBulbs - aparrently they've

1) moved offices and

2) found a virus on their computers so...

their normally rapid service has suffered. The order I placed on Monday might not reach me until next week :(

As there isn't a model listed for the Octavia guess its the H4 Osram bulb I should be ordering and do they still include the side light bulbs FOC?

Chris

free sidelight blue bulbs came with my vision plus order about a month ago - no guarentee they're still running that offer though... It looked like a semi-permanent offer judging by the web advert for it that seemed to have had a good amount of time spend doing it. (the blue bulbs look good too)

Don't see why not' date=' although as I said I haven't actually rec'd mine yet for testing / review

Yep. Not sure whether I'll use them though. If they look too Vauxhall Nova then they're in the bin. Or free to a member who sends me a SAE :). Anyway, I reserve judgement: Jason may be right ;) and they might be great.

I did the SIlverstar/blue side light upgrade last week!!

I think they are loads better than standard, although I was expecting a bit more than they give. Think that was down to the high reviews they were getting and me having high standards and all....not!!! :p:p

All in all :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

The blue sides aren't that Nova-ish at all....quite nice really, although I never have the sides switched on by themselves.

I have mine on nearly all the time. The legacy of too many years with SAABs and Volvos

Yes, that's my "problem": I run with them on all the time and don't want this to be mistaken for "look at me I've got blue bulbs" :baseball cap on back to front smiley:.

Anyway, they arrived this AM so I'll try them tonight.

Siomt,

Its gone very quiet, did you just order H4 bulbs for the vRS and the blue side lights turned up as well? I have to pass on precise order details on to SWMBO who "might be getting me them for Crimbo" using my CC details of course.

Have you fitted them and what are your views?

Yes I've fitted them. I haven't posted anything else here because I wanted to do a bit of objective testing over the weekend but didn't have the time, in the end. It will happen.

Lets start with the sidelights: Yeah, Jason / Jon were right, they're great. There's a slight blue reflection when they're off, but when they're on (99% of the driving time in my case), they just look brighter. And they are indeed free.

Headlights. Well, they're certainly better, but I need to do some swapping around before I could definitely say that they are much better. Not that it matters much anyway, because they're the best I can get. (Anyone who listened to my ranting at Duxford about how the police stop me on a regular basis while I am not speeding, not driving a stolen a car, not driving dangerously etc etc know that I don't need to give them a genuine excuse to pull me over by fitting the Rallye bulbs;))

Thanks for the tips on ordering. It would be good to hear your views on the headlamps compared with the standard ones after some testing. I am a little confused about why you keep getting stopped. Are you saying you used to have Rallye bulbs.

Chris

I have fitted the LED sidelights, a bit on the weak side but look nice! Ive got silver star on order along with some 100w meam beam bulbs. Will post pics when alls fitted of course this a fabia set up

Now I am getting confused. I thought the +50% Osram Silver Star or Philips Vision Plus H4s were dip as well as main beam replacements.

Chris

Chris,

the H4 bulbs are for the main/dipped beam. The side lights are separate.

I got the blue visions and although they are brighter the beam is no longer than standard. I'm probably going to order a set of Vision+ or Silvestars.

Cheers.

Adrian.

I think they're well worth the

SimonT,

So the Silver stars looks like the best solution unless it is possible to get Silver Stars for just the dip only (H3 perhaps?) and then get Rallye 100w for full beam thereby not dazzling other drives but getting more ranger. I do find the stanbard lights very limiting if you want to press on.

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately your bright idea (ho ho ho) is not possible - the H4 glass envelope contains two filaments, one it lit for dipped beam, the other for main beam. H3s are used in the octavia for the fog lights, but nothing else. And yes, if you want to remain legal then the Silver Stars are, according to the reviews, the best you can get. Good luck!

Si

I quite like my Silverstars too. Not much difference on dipped, but noticeably better on main beam. Oh and all Simon posted about the bulbs is correct - H4=main + dipped beam in one bulb. Fogs are H3 - I got a pair of yellow "all-season" ones FOC with the Silverstars.

Andy,

Looks like you have a solution to the lack of main beam problem for your Fabia. Has it worked out if you have got them now and tried them out, if so assume it can be done to the Octavia also?

Nick,

Most people reckon the dip is improved but not the main, but as you feel the opposite I really want to improve both dip as well as main. Any ideas anyone?

PS when is the Compton road works going to be finished;its late and its driving me mad?

Chris
