Wrong mileage- should I contact dealer

Featured Replies

Hi

just bought a car from Arnold Clark and the mileage on sticker and the invoice was over 15,000.  Paid for car and never checked it but on the digital read out is just over 9, 913 didn’t notice this as was unable to use it for a bit due to fractured ankle.
Cant  see any other way to change it so is this correct nb not complaining if it correct.  If it is any reason I should be invoice amended? Note date is wrong as haven’t adjusted it yet056A56CE-8E47-422F-8C97-5F6BAD12A38D.jpeg.2380b74c8caeadc9a4db92ca923df552.jpegin

9913 miles is just short of 16000km.

I wonder if the odometer can change units as that would certainly explain it

Maybe, so Iam not doing anything wrong and this is the actual mileage. You could be correct the km setting.

Is there any reason I would need to change the invoice as  I will reach that mileage soon enough I guess.  There has been no MOTs yet, that comes next year.  .

Same thing happened here with this Yeti, mix up with km / miles.

Do you have a print out of any Servicing or Warranty or Service Campaign work just  for your records of the car.

That is if any work was done through VW Group dealerships?

Hi

Hi

Already posted and it was agreed my mileage on new used car is lower than invoice due to perhaps km setting on...it is actually 5,000 lower (in miles) on the car and showed miles when I bought it fromArnold Clark.

I am not sure whether this could cause be problems later on if I sell the car? Should I contact dealer to get invoice changed by the dealer or not bother.  Car is less than 3 years so no MOT yet.

Any advice appreciated.

I do low mileage so was thinking next year the mileage on Mot would be less that that on the invoice I have so would look suspect if I sold the car further down the line..?? Would someone ever ask for an old invoice as well as the usual documents?

Get the letter off them then.

Sir Arnold can not sign it but there can be as Sales Executive or better the Dealer Principal about that can.

(It is only their day off when you phone if they really ripped you off.  I like to phone on my mobile from outside to be told it is the persons day off, then go in and catch them at their desk.)

What mileage was the Service done at if that was @ 2 years old?

Was it done on the British Mainland?

Why would the next buyer have privy to your invoice. As above what mileage is on the first service receipt is more relevant if it too is wrong.

@jam1

Just nosy but did they give you 2 years servicing and MOT's in the deal?

I traded in a bucket of poo to them and bought a used car and got all 'The special deals'.

So first MOT in Ayr they fail it on stuff it failed on at the MOT before i bought it.

There were the advisories on stuff, and their advice to fit new discs and pads and change the brake fluid, which was done before i bought it.

They were unhappy that i said to replace the broken spring that had replaced the year before and keep it for me to see.

Funnily they had changed it and the old one was in the scrap bin.

Nobody at the Branch wanted to talk with me.

They did once i posted on TrustPilot, on Social Media etc, the more i was unavailable to speak with them the more senior the muppets were that they had trying to contact me.

I went in last year to order a new car and somehow the salesman that was like my best friend had forgotten me.

He spent a long time with me getting me the best price and back and fore to the manager.  He must of been ****ed when he came back after many of the visits to the manager and i had walked out.

Ah well will get in touch.  Your right regarding invoice.....kinda meant all the paper work that I printed off when I bought the car from their web site.  Maybe no one would want that either I guess  and it would be all the Dvla paper work that’s important.
..... you made be laugh at least roottoot.

thanks everyone for chipping in....I am happy with car and the present mileage as it’s less than I thought.

Ah Arnold Clark...went to see a 67 plate SE L 2.0 CR Tdi advertised for £13.5k with 29k miles. Scuffs and dings galore. Oh we can buff that out sir.

Went over to Henry’s and got a 20 plate 1.5 TSI SE ACT for £13,150 with 9k miles.

Absolute scam masters

If it has been set to read in kms then the odometer would have the legend km and not ml which is what it looks like to my poor vision.

Are you complaining that your car has less miles than you thought and they should have charged you more for it?

What outcome are you wanting?

Yes, it's currently in miles but may have been in km when sold.

I think the OP is worried if they take the car in for any work or warranty repairs, the odometer may read less than when sold. The seller may accuse them of clocking it etc.

Not sure if there is any paper trail for the car yet but if there is, that could also raise similar questions when they sell it.
