2018 superb sportline

Hi ladies and gents

I'm very disappointed to realize my car doesn't have TPMS, I just find this bizarre on a car that wants to challenge the big boys of bmw Merc Audi etc

I'm looking at aftermarket wheels now and some come with a option of adding TPMS for approx £180 but would the car support this?

You do have TPMS but it's an indirect system that uses the ABS sensors and not a dedicated TPMS valve.

The car will not support aftermarket TPMS, you would need a separate screen etc.

So it sets the pressures, but then doesn't tell you what they are or if they've gone down?

That doesn't equate to the having a TPMS for me, even bog standard super mini's have this feature

Mk3 Superbs have tyre pressure loss monitoring using wheel speed monitoring as standard. It will not tell you the tyre pressures only detect if you have lost pressure in an individual wheel. Which is good enough for 99% of people.Screenshot_20210523-191058.thumb.png.25ac755bbfeace2d6c65790e284316ae.png

It doesn't tell you what the pressures are but it does tell you when one tyre starts to lose pressure... that wheel will rotate faster than the other 3 indicating that the pressure is lower.

I've set mine.

And it's never warned in 6 months, sort of makes me suspect of the system.

But will no doubt be converted the first time I do get a warning

Can understand Wazza's feelings not not having a full TPMS.

I had 3 punctures on my L&K and it warned me of all 3.

Yes it's a pretty crude system... but it works.

Have you had a puncture and it wasn't picked up? Are your tyres losing pressure?

can attest to how well it works - a non-negotiable feature, esp if your tyre sizes aren't common

Neither :D which is what has been as much of a surprise.

Just that not seeing the actual pressure reading leaves a doubt about the operation of the system

Er, relying on an electroniccy system rather than a pressure gauge makes me question the operator's competence.

In this day and age, a car of this ilk should display the relevant info, do I want to get soaking wet taking pressures of 4 tyres, no I do not.

But yes I will have to rely on the old fashioned gauge I guess

It's entirely possible to retrofit a direct system capable of showing the pressures.

- You can fit a VAG module which will integrate perfectly it'll show in the radio and instrument cluster.

- If you want a cheaper option, there are standalone versions from China you can stick on the dash.

It's down to how much you'd like to spend and if you're happy with a separate display or not :)

I suspect it's a few things such as this that make the difference between a Skoda Superb vs BMW 5 Series.  The Skoda is a very good car but for a few more notes, I suspect you get more quality.

It doesn't even rain every day in Manchester! ;-) Let alone so hard you get soaked doing a 5 minute job.

It is how VAG keep the delineation between Audi, VW, Skoda & Seat.

Nothing new about this marketing strategy.

If fitted (direct TPMS) in a VW or Skoda - it will only show the actual tyre pressure.

The same thing fitted in an Audi will show the temperature of each tyre, in addition to the pressure.

Strange, but official user manual has TPMS

Nothing strange about it at all, TPMS has been a legal requirement on new cars since November 2014.

I mean, we all have indirect TMPS on Superb, but previously mentioned document has reference to direct version.

Is that for the new facelift Superb?

Maybe it's a factory option now.

I retrofitted it to my MY17 Superb - works as shown in pic.

I think it's rather a lot more notes to get a 5 series with the same features as a Superb.

Nearly everything you take for granted is an option on the BMW. Lumbar support, adaptive cruise, electric folding side mirrors, and even the bloody ski hatch!

@JR RS do you get triggered when one tyre is 1psi less than the others?

@defiant- no, it won't do that.

the alarm gets triggered when the pressure, in any tyre, drops 3 psi or more from the preset value (the value in brackets shown in the pic i posted above).

those preset values come in different sets/profiles.  the one shown in the pic is "Standard" profile where i've set the preset pressures to be 38 psi all round.

the actual reading is shown outside the brackets, in this case the tyres r reading 36 psi.

if it drops below 35, it will set off the alarm.

i've got 3 profiles loaded:-

- Comfort (set to 34 psi)

- Standard (set to 38 psi)

- Fully Loaded (set to 41 psi)

u can switch between each profile by clicking the drop down arrow.
