Question on Central lock system + Lights

Hi,

 

So I heard of the feature called 'Anti Hijack' which could be enabled through VCDS. I assume this means only the driver door opens first and then all other doors.

I enabled it and it works.

 

Recently, I sat inside the car and locked it with the button on the key. I then tried to open the door and it doesn't open!

Q1. Is that usual the usual behavior? 

 

Next .. There is an option to enable chirps on lock and unlock. I enabled it but there are no chirps! Also, I could never get the alarm to go off. I tried a firm bang on the car and nothing.

There is a red led on the drivers door which blinks when the car is locked.

 

Q2. How can I check if my car has the security system which beeps and how do I enable chirps on lock? Is there a way to enable panic mode from the key fob? (I do not have the red panic button on the fob).

 

Next.. I've enabled coming home and going away lights and I see it on the maxi dot, configured to 10 seconds. It doesn't seem to work when I lock/unlock the car.

Recently, on an other thread, I saw a mention of this working with the 'auto' position on the light switch.

I have all the sensors for rain sensing wipers and auto dimming rear view mirror but do not have the 'auto' option on my headlights switch.

 

Q3. Do I have to get a switch with the 'auto' position (and set that up) for coming home and going away lights to work? If not, what can I try?

 

Sorry for the messy thread, not sure if I should break this down into it's own thread (I can't for the life of me find the answers to these).

Press the lock button twice in quick succession and the deadlocks won't be activated.

I always thought anti hijack was when the doors auto lock above a set speed.

Ah that doesn't work for me. No matter how quick I double press, I always hear the car locking on the first press and does nothing on the second.

That actually makes sense! I have that enabled. The coding says auto lock at 20kmph but my car locks at 15kmph. That's cool though.

If the ignition was on then that is option.

Carista allows to choose:

Enable remote control buttons when ignition is on

Yes / No

I don't know what happens when the ignition is off but easily tested as pressing the lock button above the gear lever works exactly the same way as the remote.

I disabled the remote buttons when inserted into the ignition.

When I lock myself inside with the remote and then insert the key and turn it to the on position, the doors unlock automatically!

 

But, If I lock myself inside without inserting the key in the ignition, the door handles do not open the door and also the lock/unlock switch under the parking break does nothing when pressed.

'Poor oil quality' just means your on fixed rather than variable servicing. It has no relation to the actual oil quality.

 

There is no alarm siren in your car so you won't be able to have lock/unlock chirps. You might be able to use the horn instead but I wouldn't recommend it as it's loud compared to the chirps

 

Yes, if you want proper CH/LH lights you need an auto light switch and possibly an extra wire between it and the BCM. You should then be able to code them in.

Thanks. I like the re-assurance of the chirps and will look at adding this as a retrofit, later this year.

It feels like normal behaviour due to the deadlocks though. As John mentioned, double tapping the lock button within 2 seconds should prevent the deadlocks but you may need to pull the door handle twice to get out.

 

It's all covered in the owners manual under 'safe securing', might be worth a read to compare with your cars behaviour.

Finally figured it out. I had to press the lock button a second time, a second after the first. I was pressing a lot sooner before. The deadbolts retract just fine now!
