Changing from Amundsen 1 to Amundsen 2 is it worth it?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I know I´m posting this on the wrong topic, but I´m posting this here because there are few experienced users, that maybe can help me.

I have an Octavia 3 2015 fitted with the Amunsen 1 with the small screen whatever size is 5.8" I think. I found someone locally that is selling vag parts and mods and its selling a Amunsen 2 unit the one with security removed and all functions unlocked with SD car navigation android auto, voice control, ..., the 8" screen (see photo), the usb, installation and a backup using VCDS and then the setup using VCDS to the new unit so that it matches all the cars functions. All for €750.

It is worth it, will the android auto be still functional in few year or maybe in few years a newer phone will not connect because of the obsolete version of android auto.

Thank you in advance.

I think you must have been unlucky to get an Amunsden MIB1 system in 2015, but apprechiate that the factory must have still been installing those units around that time.

There are plenty of threads on how to upgrade your MIB1 to an MIB2 system (you can go for buttons or soft-button versions).  You will need to get an MIB2 unit with SmartLink.  As for Android Auto - its going to around for a while.

I would ideally go for a unit that has either a SOP3.x or SOP4.x firmware version.  750 Euros is reasonable money - as long as the new system definately has CP removed and has been configured for your car, then you are all good to go.

P.S. Don't forget to enable Skoda Surround when you get the new unit - makes the audio experience much nicer.

Hi varaderoguy, thank you for the reply. This is the unit I have. Would it be better to get the Columbus unit the one with HDD for maps instead of SD. I don't mind the SD, its working on in the mib1 I have. I´m thinking maybe Columbus are me updatable in time. Anyways, my worry about android auto, is that maybe in few years the newer phone will not connect anymore because the car has an obsolete version of android auto.

Thank you and ignore my ignorance.

Android Auto isn't installed on the car's unit, it's installed on your phone and the phone screen is mirrored to the car's display, usually connected using a USB cable.

It's the ability to mirror your phone screen to the car display that is included in the new unit.

You can install Android Auto on your phone and use it without connecting to your car, just put your phone in a holder if you like, it's all on your phone. Any updates will be made to the version installed on your phone.

ok, I got it , sort of android tv, sort of casting the image from the phone to the car display via usb, yet the unit has a cast version o something
