Replacement Windscreen

Featured Replies

Just noticed that the windscreen on my 2017 Yeti SEL Drive with heated front screen is cracked from the bottom drivers side in a shallow arc approx 5 inches long finishing just below the arc of the windscreen wipers. Not sure when or how it happened but obviously needs replacing. My Insurance Company uses National Windscreens and they assure me a mobile unit will fit a new heated windscreen and transfer the units for detecting rain (auto wipers) and light detection (auto lights) etc. and align all elements without problem.

Anyone had any experience of having a windscreen replaced by National Windscreens (or anyone else) and whether the new windscreen was fitted without problems and the auto wipers, lights etc. performed perfectly once changed?

I am going on holiday next week so hoping the windscreen will not deteriorate while I am on my journeys to/from the west country - 1,000 miles round trip!

Mine was changed on the drive by Autoglass , the auto lights and wipers etc still work like they should.
The bit that the mirror and sensors are mounted on the glass is already bonded to the glass at the factory so sensors just have to clip and screw to it.

Exactly as Urrell said and the Autoglass technician was happy to give a full commentary while I watched the whole process.

(six inch horizontal crack starting from the edge, just below the parking ticket holder)

Also had my screen replaced a while back. I think it was Autoglass. Took about an hour to replace on my drive and no problems afterwards.

Thanks for reassurances. Company used by Insurance Company is National Windscreens which seem to have good reviews so hopefully everything will go okay. Spoke to the manager at local depot and he said they will fix on my drive unless there is a risk of rain when he advises it would be better if I take it to them - only 8 miles so no problem. Fingers crossed!

I had two heated screens changed. First by Autoglass, can't remember name of second. All done on drive, no problems with either, everything worked.

Autoglass replaced my Yeti windscreen. Took them three attempts to get the job finished. Broke trim getting it off, only admitted when I pointed it out, then agreed to get replacement.  Second visit, dropped the new trim out of the box and broke that too. Fitted it anyway. Third visit finally fitted new trim and scratched the new windscreen in the process.

Then I got them to repair the windscreen on the Tiguan.... Never again. Break the bloody thing and get a new one, it's much less damage to the surrounding paintwork...

Did the fitters transfer the plastic ticket holder from the old screen to the new or was it included as part of the new windscreen?

when i had a new screen here in france it was just a push fit, perhaps held in place by the screen glue!

Skoda parts book show the ticket holder screwed to the A post

I had Auto Windscreen's replace mine. They were going to use one of their own aftermarket screens but i paid extra and had a Skoda original fitted. I also told them it was my car and to look after it!! ;) All the sensors were good and I can't fault the repair.

interesting, did you go through your insurance and pay the excess (if necessary) and if so what was the extra cost?

how do you know it's a genuine replacement?

I asked if they could get an original. They said yes but I needed to pay the difference which was about £100 extra in all and a few days wait. I didn’t mind that as I’m a bit OCD in looking after my car and want original parts.

Don’t ask, don’t get!

All the original glass on the car has the Skoda logo in a corner.

thanks, I'll go and have a look at my screen later I keep putting off  changing my screen for exactly the reasons listed above also, but the scratches and pepper rash is quite evident now in the sun

My Autoglass replacement screen (heated, rain sensors etc) from Autoglass is stamped

FUYAO

LAMINATED

Dot 459 AS1M848

43R 010242

E4 SOLAR TINT

9 ..

Not sure what the OEM was but even if it was VAG stamped, VAG didn't make it themselves.

My (4) door glass and rear hatch is PILKINGTON with a Skoda logo plus assorted letters & numbers.

My (2) rear quarter glass is VAGC AUTOMOTIVE with Skoda logo plus        ditto

I had Autoglass bring a Pilkington screen, he asked me if I wanted an OEM one but it would take a few days so I had the Pilkington one fitted.
That was about 4 years ago and I am very happy with it.

My heated screen now has an 8" crack from the bottom edge running upwards. I'll most likely go through my insurance but what kind of cost is it if I choose to pay myself?

Autoglass are quoting over £600 for replacement windscreen, but £115 via my insurance due to my policy excess.

Those who upgraded to original Skoda glass, did you just phone them and arrange that?

Got mine booked in for replacement with Autoglass, then I asked how much extra for a Skoda OEM screen, they said they would have to ask my insurers but that would mean cancelling my appointment, which I agreed to. My insurers refused the upgrade, so I settles for the Autoglass standard screen (heated). But now they does have any appointments until after July. They must be busy or short staffed, so now I have to drive with a cracked screen fo at least 6 weeks.

Had my windscreen replaced today via my insurance and Autoglass, they subbed the job out to a local firm RM Autoglaze. Made the guy cups of coffee as he worked. £115 excess to pay, hope it doesn't increase my premium too much upon renewal.

Had a quick panic after he left as I couldn't see the heated screen elements in the glass, but thankfully they seem to be there. Roll on winter.

most policies that have a windscreen excess shouldn't affect your premium or ncb but always best to check with your insurance provider

The premium will go up by £25 for each cup of coffee, no good deed goes unpunished :D

The standard screen was priced at £600 with £115 excess to pay, but when I asked if I could have a genuine screen my insurers said I would need to contribute over £400.

Had windscreen replaced on Sunday, fitter rang me before coming because he was worried about thundery rain. Decided to take Yeti to their depot (7 miles) so work could be done inside. Good call because it poured down as he was fitting it!

Replacement was professionally done and fitter clearly knew exactly what he was doing at every stage. Fitting took about 40 mins then had to wait another 30 mins to let adhesive set before driving home. Fitter said to avoid pressure washing for 3 days so as adhesive was fully cured throughout.

Screen not from Skoda but it looks identical and everything works as normal.

£95 excess but now got uncracked new screen.

National Windscreens did a good job, they told me all windscreen companies are hugely busy at the moment.
