Cruise Control or not?

Featured Replies

As the title says, I went for a run in my car yesterday and thought I'd engage cruise control as traffic was quiet and I had a distance to make. I flipped the off/on lever on top of the stalk expecting to see the green cruise symbol light on the dash but nothing happened. Now I'm somewhat confused, I have the cruise stalk fitted, the car is an Elegance spec so I'd expect cruise to be to fitted as standard. I checked my options codes and found I have 6Y0 which reads as "not fitted with cruise control warning system". 🤔 Is the "warning system" different or is that Skoda's way of telling me it's not a fitted option? So do I have cruise or not? What's the chance of a faulty stalk?

I’m pretty sure it’s standard.

You have to turn it on first. (Which you did by moving the switch on the stalk)

then when at the desired speed, the end of the stalk has a rocker, press the lower end down and it should engage.

The upper end of the rocker is the restore function, so it will take you back up to the previous speed.

brakes have to have been applied at least once since ignition for cruise to work.

if you do get it working, rocker down to reduce speed and rocker up to increase speed.

hope this helps.

Done this. Stalk is identical to my previous B6 Passat. No indication of activation on dash when I turn it on which sets alarm bells ringing. I expect to see what looks like a green rev counter with an arrow pointing at it from the outside come on when I flip the little rocker on top from off to on. Nothing. I've noticed a lot of people have the same build code of 6Y0 on their spec sheet. 6Y0 decodes as "not fitted with cruise control warning system". Is the warning system a more advanced version of the standard cruise control?

The rocker on the top is the main on and off system switch. No green warning comes up when you use this. Leave this in the on position.

The set control  on the end of the stalk as above.

Just found this on YouTube. MFD display bottom left shows cruise on and green indication top right above MFD. This is an identical MY10 dash as mine.

Does your stalk look like this?

1 - on off switch

2 - set/reduce speed (this is when the green icon appears)

3 - restore/increase speed

i leave 1 in the on position at all times. Press 2 when I want to set cruise control on. I press 3 when I want to speed up or restore cruise to the previous speed.

it won’t come on below 25mph I think.

Yes, my switch is identical to that. I know how to activate/use it, as I previously mentioned it's the same system as fitted to my MY08 Passat. You press 2 it sets the cruise, if you brake and press 3 it resumes the set speed. If you press and hold 2 or 3 it will increase or decrease the set speed until you let the button go.

Hi Andy,

I may be wrong but I believe that the Skoda operation differs to that of the VW (oddly - given they are essentially the same electronics/mechanicals).

I think I'm right in saying that in the VW, the green light comes on as soon as you flick the switch over from 'off' to 'on', whereas in all the Skodas I've owned with the cruise system installed, arming the system by flicking the switch doesn't turn on the green dash indicator, that only comes on when you press 'set' or 'resume' - ie, the green light is only on when the car's speed is being controlled by the cruise control. Apologies if I'm wrong but I seem to remember being confused by a mate's Passat displaying the green light even when he was changing gear manually, braking, accelerating etc.

Cheers,

Dave.

If you have access to VCDS, the different switches can be checked in measuring blocks (can't remember exactly where offhand) - you should be able to see if the car is detecting the button presses.

Cruise control may not work for all sorts of reasons including clutch and/or brake pedal sensors

Not got VCDS but have read car on a top of the range Autel which has found a comfort control module issue. Question is does the CCM handle the cruise and where is it located?

If some modules in your car have stored a DTC it can disable the cruise control. You have to read and clear the faults.

Fault code cleared but still no cruise. Have found CCM behind cubby hole to the lower right of steering wheel though.
