Skoda Octavia 1.8 TFSI DSG Flashing D

Recommended Posts

I have the 7 speed DSG gearbox in my 1.8 petrol Octavia Estate.

The mechatronic unit was replaced just over 2 years ago.

The problem i am having is very occasionally the car will go from D1, D2, D3 to a flashing 'D' symbol on the dash.  It has only happened in low gears.

Most of the time the car is fine, drives well, the gear changes are smooth. But once in a while the car just has a funny turn! When i get the flashing D symbol, i turn the car off and on and all is well.

Do i need to get the gearbox serviced? Is it an issue with the clutch? Im confused as the mechatronic unit was replaced 2 years at a cost of £1800.

Any ideas welcome!

Thanks

The 7sp dry clutch DSG hasn't proven as reliable as the 6sp wet clutch that came out before it. There was also the recall in many markets and in the uk some sort of tsb or product action to change the oil used due to issues it could cause with the internal electrics.  Given yours has a new mechatronic 2 years that should obviously dealt with now.  Who did the previous work? How much warranty was there. I think you need to go back to them. The behaviour indicates a problem.

'34F7' the Service Campaign in the UK/ Europe,  (Not deserving of the World Wide Recall...)as Europe is told what to do by VW)

to change the synthetic oil for mineral and the software update started in 2014 on 2009-2012 DQ200's so that has come and gone.

So back to the MCU that was replaced, or a fork selector or clutch pack issue.

The box needs a diagnostic done on it again.   A reset is not going to fix things.

A look to see if oil has leaked from the MCU is worth doing.

You need a proper diagnostics carrying out.

It could be one of several issues.

There's a fairly common problem where the accumulator splits causing a loss of pressure and the mechatronics not being able to engage gears or operate the clutches anymore. This is a pretty easy fix and there a kit available with new seals, accumulator and filter etc.

It could also be that the clutches are shot.

Or maybe the box has leaked into the mechatronics or vice versa.

Or worst case is the electronics have burnt out and the mechatronics needs replacing.

Today our DSG  Roomster has developed a problem. The D lights were flashing and the gears were not selecting. Put it into S (sport mode) and it seemed better. Do not want to drive it as I do not want to be stranded.

Phiil -E mentions a kit available for accumulator split - any part numbers please?

Car has done 55k and has been working perfectly.

What visual checks can I do?

best regards

Paul

You need the diagnosis done first.

Since your Roomster is a 2012 it might not have needed or had service campaign '34F7' done which was on DQ200's from 2009 to 2012, so late 2021 were not part of it, then Skoda said the they were not part of '34H5' which was on ones from 2013-2015.  This was a software update that was introduced because of issues with heat and pressure and failures.

No idea if the member is still selling the part, but before buying anything find out what the fault is.

Looked under the car and there is oil leakage. So assume it is the Mechatronic unit failed. Problem is I can't drive it. Will attempt to get a better look at the unit tomorrow. I assume leak means repairing the Mechatronic.

Will report back tomorrow.

Try and have a look at the top of the gearbox towards to right hand side. Underneath the starter motor wiring should be a small black breather. Look for signs of a leak coming from there.

Is the fluid green?

The Mechatronic unit has leaked, colour looks green. I have been reading  and watching videos. It is mentioned that the replacement Mechatronic unit needs calibrating using the VCDS system. I do not have access to this

If it has leaked out of the breather on the top then it's most likely the accumulator that's cracked.

And yes VCDS (or something capable of accessing and controlling the DSG controller) is required.

Not sure if it's needed if the mechatronics is to be repaired though.

I have a similar issue on my 2010 1.4tsi Octavia Mk 2 with DSG 7.

I start the car. Move the selector to D. On the screen D flashes. Pressing the accelerator slightly revs the engine, but not to the extent that it would in neutral. I move the selector to N, then back to D. The screen shows D1 and the car is in drive as normal. Only happens occasionally. Mileage is 84k. Car is serviced every 12 months. Only doing about 6k a year.

Popped a video on YouTube  at

 in case anyone is interested.

Mechatronic on the way out? Should I try to find someone with VCDS? Advice very welcome. Thank you.

Servicing every year makes no difference to your DQ200 because it does not get touched.   It might have had since 2014 the service campaign 35F7 and the oil changed from Synthetic to mineral and a software update.  For DQ200 2009-2012.       Best you visit an automatic specialist that works on DSG,s.
