"key not found!"

Featured Replies

Hi all!

My Superb (with KESSY) has started randomly saying "Key not found!" While I'm sat in the car with the key in my pocket.

The buttons on the fob still work and to date it's "found" the key within a minute or so. I'm just worried it's going to get to the point where it won't be able to find it!

When it first started happening I changed the battery in the fob, but that doesn't seem to have altered the situation.

Anyone got any ideas?

I used to get this in my Karoq if I had the key in my pocket and is probably why they provided a slot in the centre console for the key to sit in ,this had nothing to do with the back up position but it started every time the key was there and hit and miss if in my trouser pocket

For reference the battery has nothing to do with locating the key and allowing it to start its purely there to activate the locks you can remove the battery and the car will start

The manual states otherwise

The manual is a bit misleading from experience it’s a bit hit and miss just holding the remote in front of the button you have to actually push it

I’d did a video on using the fob withe the battery removed to prove you could gain axes and start your vehicle withe the battery removed

Thanks for the responses.

Inspired to to RTFM!

"■ Key not found. or No Key: This message is displayed when you wish to start the engine and the system cannot detect a valid key in the vehicle. This can occur if the key is outside the vehicle, the battery in the key is discharged, the key is defective or the electromagnetic field is strongly disturbed. This message is also displayed when the ignition is switched on or the engine is running and the system cannot detect a valid key in the vehicle."

So looks like it could either be a dodgy key or something disturbing the magnetic field. I shall try using the spare key for a time to see if it happens again.

My Sportline just gave me a warning that the battery in the key needed to be replaced. I tested the battery after removing it and it was dead. I thought my locking/unlocking problem was the car battery, but I think now that it was the key battery. 4.5 years old. It's a CR2032 3-volt pancake battery.

I've had a new car battery in the last year, so I wouldn't suspect that.

It's due a service - I'll ask Scoda to take a look. I was just curious if there was a quick fix!

Good to know there's an override though

I occasionally drop the key into the door pocket and sometimes (not always) get the same ‘key not found’ message - the vehicle is happiest when the key is in the centre console- though I, and many others would argue, it would be best in the now rarely seen ignition slot…….

I've never had this message and my key is usually in my coat pocket or man bag (depending on the time of year and outside temperature), which I put on the back seat as soon as I've opened the doors.

Mine lives in a kessy pouch in my jeans pocket and I rarely get the key not found message but it has happened a few times. The pouch has an inner (blocked signal) pocket for the key when at home and an outer one that lets the signal out, I just move the key between the pouches when I am gonna drive the car.

My key lives in whatever increasingly difficult hide-and-seek locations around the seat rails it can work its way into after sliding out of my pockets while I'm in the drivers seat. Sometimes bank cards and other pocket items chase after it

I tried the spare key yesterday. Only noticed the "key not found" once, but I was a little distracted correcting all the things that moved/didn't move for that key's profile!

I need to go back to the manual to work out how to set up that key's profile to my liking!

Our L&K 2017 superb actually locked itself one day with the key in the central console and our 2 and a half year old in the back seat.

On a very warm day when we were 2 hours drive from home in a very rural area

Ensue panic

What did you do??

Rang insurance company to get assistance. Luckily my cousins were on hand and knew a breakdown driver nearby.

He arrived 20 mins later, put two balloons inside drivers door frame and got a rod inside door to pull door handle from inside. He wouldn't even accept payment for it.
