Octavia More BHP

Featured Replies

HI I have the 1.9tdi estate on a 03 plate. What is the best way to get the BHP up from the current 90. Various people have suggested, remapping the ecu, plugging a preprogrammed unit into the ECU socket etc. Also what BHP would I expect to get and would it effect the mpg. i'm in West Yorkshire, is there anyone local who could do this work and what would be the approx cost. cheers

Hi I'm not a diesel burner myself but I know they have great potential and really good results can be gained with a re map from a reputable tuner. I am sure someone more knowledgable will be along to help shortly...................

I've looked at loads. I would recommend a remap rather than a chip, and ideally on a rolling road although you'll pay more.

Given that you live up north, you might want to consider http://www.revotechnik.com/ because they have branches nationwide. Cost is £399 plus VAT.

Cheers,

Jon.

I drive a 110, and IIRC the major difference between the 90 & 110 is larger bore injectors (you can fit the 110 injectors into a 90) and the 90's lack of an intercooler I think.

So my options would be 110TDi Injectors, an intercooler (Probably get both of these from a breakers) and then a remap.

That would probably see you good fora bout 130bhp and a good amount of torque assuming the gearbox and drivetrain can take the torque.

You can get circa 150bhp out the 110 engine.......

Michael at Jabba has a 110bhp SLX...he mapped it at 200k miles on the clock to 150bhp.....still running fine.....got around 250k on the clock.

Stuart_J's SWMBO had ther L&K 110 remapped by Jabba...160bhp IIRC....just sold with over 100k miles.

It depends on your budget (realistic), how long you plan on keeping the car, and whther or not you would prefer to have it reverted to standard when you sell it on.

I used to have a 90bhp MK3 golf. I bought a digital tuning box and K&N panel filter for it. It went very well, and the mods were value for money (135k miles and no probs). The bonus of the tuning box over the remap was that i just unplugged it when i sold the car, and then sold the box seperately for

I think the turbo is different as well. Does the 110 not have a variable vane turbo, and the 90 doesn't.

Any major changes mechanically would require a remap anyway, cause the ECU isn't set up for it as standard, but all that would give substantial power increase at a cost!!

The cars up to 112000 & still going strong, Wendys got the new car but ive kept the Octy as a runner to take the load off the 4x4.

Re the 90 I would see what can be gained by just a remap initially, as soon as you start miing & matching bits it starts to get expensive & hassle.

talk to Jabba etc to see what extra you can expect, you might be pleasantly suprised

Can't say i know on the turbo, think you are correct, but not sure.

If you do need one you can also get a turbo from a breakers, clean it up and drop it on. Shouldn't be that hard for an experienced tuner to put on I would have thought

The others would work without the turbo, but whatever you do make sure you get the remap last as then it can take into account the other mods.

Edit: Re the injectors, they literall are a direct replacement, just they put a little more fuel in per squirt.

Ideally you want to to do the mapping on a real road as that's where the car will be driving most, rather than under artificial "laboratory" conditions ;)
