Can the steering wheel voice command button be linked to Android Auto instead of Skoda's system

Featured Replies

Maybe I'm just not using it properly, but I don't care for the Skoda voice command system on my new Octavia.

Using my phone via Android Auto is a much better experience.  But it's a shame to always have to say 'ok google' when my steering wheel has a voice command button.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but Is there a setting which will allow the button to completely ignore the built in system and link to Android Auto instead?

Not sure if it’s the same with Android but with Apple car play you can use the steering wheel button for both. Press the button and you get Skoda voice control. Press and hold and you get Apple car play with Siri. Might be worth trying press and hold with your Android.

Yup, as above, press and hold for the android voice assistant :)

Yes....the MK3's Voice system is only marginally less useless than the MK4's so not much to choose from there. As @langers2k
said, press and hold...press and hold. You also ideally need firmware version 0478 for Bolaro and Amunsden to both the internal and Android Auto voice activation to work properly.

Thanks guys, this works really well.  Seems a bit obvious now, but I just assumed it was tied to the Skoda system
