Hi guys I need my radio code and cant find it anywhere on any of my skoda books i got with my car not even the radio book,

 

I rang up my local skoda and they said your not given the radio code you have to bring it in and pay them to get it for you.

 

is this some sort of JOKE I have all the original books user manuals radio manuals book and they dont give you the radio code when you buy the car.

 

I understand you need to take the radio out to get the radio number which I find daft that this is not even in the books and seems I,m going to have to pay some guy on ebay £13 to get my code.

 

I mean where do them on ebay get the code they much know someone who gives it to them?  

 

Oh do I need a special tool to get the radio out?

Yes and no. Yes in that you need radio "keys" to remove the head unit. No in that the code for the original fit ICE is stored in the convenience ECU and read from there if required when you switch the ignition on. This almost always works, even after the battery has been disconnected or the ICE removed and replaced.

 I am resetting the ECU by disconnection of the battery and draining the power will the ECU still store it?

2. Well, I've changed the battery, which involves disconnecting both terminals and the ICE came back about 3s after I switched the ignition back on.

If you mean the engine ECU, then I don't think you'll be resetting anything in that by disconnecting the battery. It's powered through a relay, so every time you switch off the car and walk away, you effectively remove power from it when the relay de-energises.

 

What are you trying to achieve by such a reset?

Hi  Wino I was getting desperate and come across quite a few of these vids about resetting the ECU's its a bit like resetting a computer and computers I understand, I took the battery off once and it did help, so thought what have I got to lose i,m still getting lots of false codes like glow plugs, I have had a lot of my income stopped Wino and I just cant afford a garage hourly rates, I have tried garages which charged me loads of money and 2 weeks later yet another warning light or sensor warning its driving me nuts as not to well lately

well well, I followed that Video left it for an hour to discharge put the battery cables back on and boom, everything working fine again, all warning lights have gone out, no faults, nothing and radio still works.

 

 

 

 

@sealover1 - Kewel. I see it worked for you. Now, on the assumption that your engine is a 1.9tdi variant, it will run for years with bad glowplugs, and the worst effect you'll notice is a bit of white smoke for a few seconds on a cold start in Winter.

Its a Skoda Octavia Scout MK2 2007  2.0 TDI Estate Engine BMM 103kw, I dont think there is anything wrong with the glow plugs I think its false faults and a wiring problem, plus as soon as the battery runs down a bit it starts showing faults of all sorts, thing is being disabled I dont really go out much and when I do its to the shops and back, sometimes drive over to the beach but I dont do a lot of miles really and it plays havoc when the battery is not got a good charge in it. I do have a good charger so will just have to give it a charge every couple of months and see if that stops it    

Mk2s and most new cars really don't like low voltage conditions, like you say. 

 

Edit. Alarm horn fault probably due to modile fault, it's own rechargeable battery failing...

The Alarm horn  is not there lol they both went so I replaced 1 and that seems loud enough for me

Minor point, I have a 2007 1.9tdi and over lockdown found I needed to charge at least once per month to keep the voltage up, admittedly the battery was 5 years old 

Yeah, when @sealover1 said 'every couple of months' my first thought was 'more often would be better'.

 

Alarm horn is generally a separate entity from the horn(s) that you (might) blast other motorists with.

Not sure about the horn thing then if its not the missing horn, and yes maybe your right about monthly the battery is only under 2 years old,

 

but then driving it this morning the 2 lights come back on and back off again a few times so maybe its not fixed, my mate said your tyres look not fully inflated and that could even cause problems and so inflated them and now the lights have not come back on yet.

Back to an earlier comment, the alarm horn, no signal will be the alarm siren unit with it's own rechargeable battery. It is either unplugged, wiring faulty or as they all do somewhere north of 6 years, probably failed due to the battery leaking.   So it is unlikely to function in a theft situation.  You can test by lowering a window on the car. Locking. Leave 30 seconds. Then waive your arms in the car, you may find the hazzard lights activate but no siren.   It will not produce any dash lights though.

 

What 2 lights on the dash come and go?  Low tyre pressure can cause the TPMS to show a picture of the tyre tread indicating low pressure. If it is ESC / ABS you could have a faulty abs sensor or ring which is also pretty common on these after so many years.  The VCDS scan didn't show anything other than the alarm siren and the glow plugs unless I missed something.

That can happen when the alternator isn't charging properly.

These are fascia warning lights illuminating, because the relevant ECU isn't receiving sufficient voltage.

Not if the reason for the alternator inaction is:-

1. The sprague clutch is open.
2. One of the alternator control wires has come disconnected,

I just went out and checked the alternator  and its fine 14v with air con on lights on full so it is working as it should
