LED sidelights

Featured Replies

Changed the Xenon bulbs for LED's as the Xenons were quite poor even in the dark. At dusk (when I always put the side lights on) you couldn't really see them that well.

These are the '4 LED' type (£6.50 from Halfords) and are a big improvement.

The left side looks slightly dimmer than the right but in reality, they're both the same (couldn't get the right angle)

Do they fit standard bulb housings or are you on factory fit xenons?

I like the idea of led lights, but have heard they have a different resistance and can set of the "bulb out" warning light on the dash... you had any probs with this?

They do look better Jon. Was it easy to do? What about your main beams?

In sidelight form they don't cause any bulb out errors. However, I've used those types of LED sidelights for several years (in single and quad LED format) and have yet to find a reliable set. I found they typically lasted about 4 months, but on a factory fitted xenons headlight arrangment they aren't being fried by the dipped beam bulbs so they might last longer!

Another thing, could you please resize that picture to about 800x600 or smaller? I don't know what resolution screen you're using, but on mine I'm having to scroll right across to read each line.

These bulbs are for 12v supply and therefore do not cause any bulb errors. The set I bought was reduced from

I have factory Xenons and the quad LED's do fit the standard hole in the lens.

I would love to have some differant sidelight bulbs but really just cannot be bothered to drop the front bumper :( :( :(

Something i'm used to having had the Polo GTi for the last 3 years.......

Cheers

Dave.

 You dont have to!! You can get in to change the sidelight bulbs. The main beam ones require you to remove the headlights NOT the bumper

Puzzled !

Are you talking about sidelights or dipbeam ?

If you are talking about side lights' date=' side light lamps are not Xenons, they are halogen, and I cannot see LED's are brighter than Xenons.

Steve[/quote']Steve,

Let me clear a few things up for you. ;)

I have factory fitted Xenons. (yes, DIPPED beam only)

The factory side lights are normal 'yellowish' bulbs. Bit naff.

I had previously changed these side light bulbs for 'Xenon gas' filament bulbs. (and yes, the LED quads are much brighter than xenon filament bulbs)

I have now changed them again for LED 'quad' bulbs (as per picture).

Comprehende ?

So is it a case that even with factory fitted xenons the sidelights can still be accessed without removal of the bumper or headlight unit????

I just assumed it was the same as the Polo GTi which was a case of removing the bumper and then the headlight unit as well.

Dave.

Looks good

Yes that is correct.

BUT the battery side is very tight. My dealer did mine for me for free!! 'jonny boy' did them himself. Perhaps he will post a 'How to..'?;)
