Very smooth DSG gears switching after VCDS Adaptation

Featured Replies

If it's in 5th and you want 4th. Try pressing on the go pedal just before you shift. A fraction of a second is enough to "warn" the box that you don't want that higher gear but a lower one. It's a bit like kick down but you are the one shifting and you obviously aren't giving it so much gas that the engine revs it's tits off

The end result is the same - the DSG has to go the long way round. It's not a huge deal just something to understand about how it operates.

Hello,

is it safe to ignore the worning on the begining at Reset All Adaptation Values?

Can some irreparable damage be done?

This should be done with engine off?

Is there some option that when car is started DSG start in S mode not in D mode, because in D mode gears changes at 1500 rpm and the car drives in 6th gear at about 1000 rpm?

And the problem is? I mean, as long as you can keep up with the traffic short shifting like this.

Engine running when doing this and no you can't get it to start in S mode as far as I know.

I found out that after 40 minutes of waiting...

Resurrecting this thread with a query. Not an Octavia III but a Superb III with DQ200 but assume principles/measures are the same:

Followed the OP's video clip and opened Auto Transmission Basic Settings then.....

Tried 'Reset All Adaptation Values' . Got - "Error : Request Out of Range".

Tried the next option - 'Basic Settings for Transmission'. Got - "Aborted Due to Malfunction".

I don't have 'Calibration of Synchro Points' so unable to select. ( any suggestions as to an alternative? )

Tried 'Start Double Clutch Fast Adaptation'. This was command was accepted although the process finishes in less than a second.

The above were done both with ignition on/engine off and also engine running. Not sure which would be preferred setting.

Any ideas?

Engine needs to be running and gearbox fluids up to temperature. At least on the wet clutch boxes. The dq200 could be different.

Thanks again fr1nkln, although you may note that the last post on the ross-tech thread you suggested is from me.😁. The OP's menu options look to be different to the ones I have. I'll do a screen shot and post when I work out how to do it.

I will revisit it again though, to see if I can make any further progress.

I retried last night after my 50mile shlep home from work but no change, still unable to run either  'reset values' or 'basic settings' from the menu.

On a side note, I did manage to change the driving profile on Module 44 from Incremental to Direct which has made a small but noticeable difference to the shifting behavior, particularly with the engagement/duration/shift point of 1st gear. Whereas with the Incremental setting it was difficult/impossible to detect the shift between 1st & 2nd gear as it happened almost instantly and at very low revs, 1st gear now holds-on up to 1800 - 2000rpm before shifting into 2nd. Overall acceleration has also pepped-up and the car seems far more responsive.

The underlying issue with slippery gear shifting still exists though which is what i'm trying to cure.

How many miles has it done?  Could be that it needs a good flush.  Officially they are non-serviceable but they can definitely be worked on.  Worst case the clutches are on the way.

179k miles.

Mech & trans oils changed ~ 5000 miles ago, both for the first time!! Trans oil looked OK but the Mech oil was a murky brown colour rather than original green. Because of that I might get the Mech oil changed again at the next service and treat the current refill as a flush.

Clutch pack is new, as is the flywheel. Both changed in the hope of fixing the slippery changes, which they have not.

OK so you know the gearbox well then.  Is there a bed in period for the clutch pack?  From the sounds of it the box certainly wouldn't suffer from having the mech oil changed again.  Is there a strainer/filter on the DQ200?  The one on the DQ400e (mine) is really hard to get to so I was sure to ask them to change it when I got it serviced 25k ago.  Most places will just do the fluid and reset.

Have you taken it to a gearbox specialist?  FYI, there's one in Medway that a mate has personal experience with that I would not recommend.  Screwed his box up to the point it needed factory replacement.  All work (inc, specialist) was done under warranty.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share some of my positive experience with the 6 speed DSG DQ250.

I wasn’t happy with the DSG behavior on my Octy because it was jerky between 2nd and 3rd and vise versa. And also between 1st and 2nd with light throttle.

So I decided to check the DSG oil by adding 1liter and also check for leaks from the DSG filter seal due to some oil on the transmission which I’ve noticed while changing the engine oil few months ago. The filter cap seal wasn’t leaking, but I was there already and added a liter oil, so changed seal and the filter as well.

After the excess oil was drained when the fluid reached 35 degrees, I decided to do some DSG Adaptation a bit different from the one described in Ross-Tech site. I saw it in YT for Golf 7 R..

1/ Auto Trans > Basic Settings

- Reset All Adaptation Values

- Basic settings for transmission

- Calibration of Synchro-points

- Start double-clutch fast adaptation

2/ Then I drove the car in tiptronic(manual) mode on odd and then even gears by pressing the gear selector twice quickly: 1 - 3 - 5 - 6 - 4 - 2 - 1. Did this few times.

3/ After this procedure, I switched to auto mode(D) and now the transmission is so much better - not jerky at all, upshifting and downshifting much better.

Some people report that after some time their gearbox returns back its bad behavior and they have to re-adapt the gearbox. I don’t know how long it will remain like that, but I don’t mind doing the adaptation every 3-4 months - it takes 5 mins.. :)

I have no idea why this is on 2nd page of very specific Google search, and why no other forum gives these instructions to do it, but god damn you are a legend.
I have exactly those 2>3 shift issues, it's like it's very lazy to shift up, otherwise works pretty well.

Got DMF and clutch packs replaced this week, so figured it's prefect time to re-adapt transmission now too. (DMF was failing and clutches were original 300k km driven, "it's on the table so might as well" -type of replacement)

Will try

In the video it doesn't state whether the adaptation is done with just ignition on or with engine running at idle. During the Synchro points adaptation part it appears the engine is running as the guy mentions he can feel the engine tugging on the brake.

How did you carry out your reset?
