Usb C how do you connect to usb 3 Memory stick?

Featured Replies

I have been playing a 32gb memory stick in the front Usb C port. Today it tells me there are no user files but

if I change to the second Usb C port my music plays I use the same plug in adapter and the spare one works

in the same manner. Do you have a proven alternative to using a plug in adapter with these lightweight C-ports

I had issues with an iPod Touch doing similar things. In the end, based on a recommendation on this site I got a new memory stick from Argos, item number 784/5251. Seems to have been reliable as long as it's left plugged in.

I already have two sticks usb 3's, 32gb and 64gb. I will bear these dual-drive in mind thanks.

I was looking at the set up and the usb C port is very light weight in mechanical construction,

and seems to allow anything plugged in to rock about as the base area is very small.

I will try a 90deg. usb 'C' with a short cable to a usb A 3.0/3.1 adapter, instead of the plug

in adapter.

Hey Rodders.

You might try one of these, then. Very good.

I was using that type of adapter (which work well) the problem seems to be the cars own flimsy usb C ports.

The OTG cable moves the load off the usb C port (and incidently puts the memory stick out of sight)

I think these little C-ports should have a supporting collar around them.

I agree with the comments about the flimsy usb c ports. Location is poor too. I have tried adaptors: they stick out too far and make it a handy lever to wreck the port. Bought a couple of the cables from here https://www.kenable.co.uk/en/usb-cables-adapters/usb-type-c-cables/usb-c-cables/8783-right-angle-usb-31-type-c-to-usb-30-type-a-socket-adapter-cable-otg-008783-5055383487837.html. They're good quality and not too pricey. They solve the problem of the ports being open to dust and any other bits. I can use any of my usb A memory sticks and the two Scandisk micro usb flash drives I used in the last car work very well and are small enough to tuck out of the way.

I've tried the double ended USB flash drive and adaptors in the car, although I haven't yet tried an adaptor cable.

I've reversed the situation now and bought a Kingston flash drive with a C USB plug which plugs directly into the car and to get media onto it from my laptop, I've bought a a C to A adaptor. I figured that having this sticking out the side of the laptop whilst downloading was preferable to having it all sticking out of the C sockets in the car permanently.

I do have my music collection on a double ended C and A flash drive which is currently working fine.

Have to agree with comments above about the sockets in the Kamiq. They are in the wrong place and whatever I plug into them doesn't fit snugly. The proper USB sockets in my previous Kodiaq were far superior.
