Another 220, 230 or… 245 question?

Featured Replies

Thanks for everyones help so far & i’m sure this will be my last question. After picking up my Octavia on Tuesday, we have already driven 300 miles and it’s such a great car so it’s great to come here and see such a active community.

I was ordering some badges from Kopakec and in the description it said VRS 245. Once I delved deeper I saw the previous models were 230 and 220.  After a bit of homework I still cannot work out between the others.

My first question is does every VRS fall into the category of 220, 230 or 245 or can you get a VRS that is neither of the three?

My Octavia reg is CX16 JFJ, BHP 217 and I cannot for the life of me workout where it is in that line up. I’m 100% sure it’s not a 245 as they are the latest model but not sure if it could be a 220?

There are others who will be able to give a more accurate answer, but I believe yours being a 16 plate will be a 220.

IIRC the 230 came out with the facelift, then the 245 came out in the last couple of years of production.

Nope, the diesel vRS is a 184 ;)

The 220/230/245 is the power output in pferdestärke aka PS or metric horsepower.

Therefore, if you have 217BHP then you have the 220ps edition

It goes kinda like this:

Pre Facelift

220

230 “SE”

Facelift

230

245 “SE”

245

245 Challenge

Ive made up the SE designation to highlight it was marketed as a special edition. Depending on the market the above is not a hard and fast rule but it’s something to guide you by.

At least, that’s my interpretation of the models.

To add to the above comments, another way to differentiate between the pre-facelift (PFL) 220 and 230 would be to check the options list to see if you have the electronic differential (E-Diff) on the vehicle. If not, it's the 220. And as Langers said, if it states it has 217BHP then it'll be the 2016 '220' version.

Nowadays it's almost impossible to determine between the 2014-2016 PFL 220 and 230 visually, as so many of the 220s had the options packs (black package, 19" wheels etc) as added extras that the 230 had as OEM from 2016 🥴

I'm still trying to understand why my 230 didn't come with the obligatory 'black spoiler' that it was touted to have back in the day 🙄
