Thirst for oil?

Featured Replies

Hi I posted some time ago about my the oil consumption of my 1.8T. I filled up and checked it regularly. I got 1310 miles from max to min on the dip stick. Is this high?

I mentioned in the last thread that I cant find a leak and it does not appear to be smoking. Any particular areas I should check?

Well min to max is about 1/2 litre. And they are permitted to use 1 litre per 600 miles so its within limits.

Having said that it does seem unusual.

An oil consumption figure as high as 1 litre/1000 km (621 miles) is considered acceptable for the Octavia. Can you quantify how many miles your car is doing per litre of oil?

My son's Audi S3 Quattro with the 210bhp 1.8T engine was using more the acceptable figure for a while with no signs of a leak or smoke. It is currently having a major, expensive rebuild having suffered a melted piston probably due to piston ring breakage. With his experience in mind, I would recommend having a compression test done to rule out a similar problem in your case.

the last rs i had used 1/2 in 17000 miles from service to sevice and it was revo'd. the new rs i have with 3000 mile on the clock was using 1/2 litre every 1000 mile and all of a sudden 1 litre in 100mile, turbo seals had gone. i have heared from a dealer that a fault batch of turbos was at fault and some seats also had faulty seals, but only on the last of the mk1's, 2005-2006

skoda replaced the turbo no questions asked in 2days

iwould say no more than 1/2 litre every 10,000

i have had three vrs and and this is what the last two used.

check i/c pipe for to much oil, puff of smoke when starting, oil in d/v. the were all the signs mine had.
