Combi Tailgate Strut Mod with Springs

Hi All,

I have a 2017 Combi with a manual tailgate.  I saw on the Octi form about a mod where you fit a spring to the gas strut on the tailgate so that when you open the tail gate with the remote the spring pushes out enough to open the tail gate and allow the struts to take over to fully open the boot.

My question is: Has anybody tried this on a Combi tails gate and if so what springs did you use?  Or, would the weight of the tailgate be too much to consider thinking about doing this?
