Drive mode

Featured Replies

Hi, i have a skoda octavia combi 4*4 2019 model. Some time drive modes not working. I can select the drive mode, and i can see my selection on display.but the system and engine work in normal drive mode.

Anyone had like this issue?

Do you have dsg or DCC? The engine will not give you more power in sport mode if that's what you are expecting.

Hi Ken, I understand about sport mode, but sometimes it’s not working, that is the problem.

Please explain in what way you can feel it's not going into sport mode?

In that the gears/throttle response just remain normal? Does the orange light come on as well? On mine when you select 'Eco' or 'Sport' the drive mode button illuminates orange. If it always indicates that it has changed to sport mode, but just refuses to do so, maybe a software issue? Or something is blocking it - although I am not sure whether the car defines parameters to change to sport mode, this is only based on the fact that the car wont engage cruise if certain seemingly unrelated faults (e.g. a brake light is out, apparently) are registered.

One easy check is the coasting "E" in economy mode when you're driving (over 30mph?) and life the throttle.

Can you coast in E mode at the moment?

I'm not a tech, so I'm happy to be corrected, but...

I understand the gearbox "learns" driving characteristics of the driver, and retains them.

So first thing I'd be looking at is clearing all learned characteristics, and starting from scratch and seeing if the mode changes are happening or not.

(Sport mode not only changes the gear change characteristics, but also seems to dramatically change throttle response in my car.)

This is folk law. The gearbox adapts over time to different conditions and inputs. Temperature, clutch wear, engine output...... At no point does it actually learn the drivers style. Yes you can reset the adaptations and many have reported a positive experience afterwards (me included).

Double checking with the eco mode coasting is a surefire way to check if the modes are changing. There have been a few reports over the years of VAG cars mode selector fails so it does happen.

Thanks for clarifying that. :)
