Cinturato P7's.......

Featured Replies

I just noticed that the tyres on my 2016 Super Estate have cracks round the outer sidewalls. They were original equipment on the car when I bought it new in Sept 2016 (actually, ex demo with 250mls on the clock...), but they've only done 24,900 miles and still have 5mm of tread left. The date stamps are 1316 and 1416, so they were fresh to begin with.

They've never been flat, punctured, or kerbed.

A quick look online flagged up various complaints about Pirellis, and tbh, I'm a bit nervous about continuing with them as most of my journeys are motorway thrashes...

I'd be grateful if members could suggest some experience-based alternatives . The size is 235/45 R18 94W.

I've just fitted a set of Uniroyal Rainsport 5's on to my "other" car (91 Eunos Roadster 1.6 V-spec) and so far I'm impressed, quiet and the car feels like it's on rails, but for the Superb?.........

All you could ever need to know about tyres:

Some excellent YouTube videos by the same people too.

The edge of the tread of our P7’s on ours are pretty terrible, but no sign of sidewall cracking.

Seems to be a common problem with modern tyres if the car is parked in sun and all weathers rather than in a garage

There is another thread where Pirelli P7s are wearing slowly and asking for suggestions

P7s are not designed to be used in colder weather (they are Italian and summer tyres).  My suggestion is get them checked and when you come to replace them go for all season tyres.   But remember all season tyre prices jump seasonally soon.

If you want recommendations then any of Continental All season contact, Goodyear vector 4season Generation 3, Vredestein Quatrac Pro.   Maybe Michelin cross climate plus or Hankook kinergy 4S 2 H750 or Bridgestone A005 Evo

Recently fitted cross climates to my Passat of the same size. Nice predictable response all round. Far too early to comment on wear but I imagine it will be a fair bit different to most with the added weight and torque of the electric bits in the hybrid setup.

Also just got rid of similar condition Pirellis on our Arona for cross climates. Not had a chance to drive it yet (Mrs G's car) but imagine it's a similar story to my car.

Yeah, I don’t think that’s actually a thing and I’ll tell you why.
A You can have it both ways, John; it can’t be a problem with the sun and then be OK to use in warm but apparently cloudy Italy.

B. Pirelli is a global OE supplier to the whole of VAG, Ford Passenger Cars and Commercials, Renault PC&C, BMW, Mercedes PC&C, Peugeot PC&C, Citroen etc. and all of which combined outsell the domestic Italian market 500-1. Do you honestly believe that they’d risk these global relationships by creating tyres that only work in Italy, in the warm? And one other thing, have you noticed how warm its been here lately? Given the complaints from Briskodians about all manufacturers, this is a manufacturing thing don’t you think? If people change their tyres one year earlier, you’ve improved your sales pipeline by 25-50%. Not bad, huh?
