Hi all,

New owner of a 2014 Octavia.

Bought it from an auction - Cat N write off.

No real info on it, no service history etc etc.

Runs / Drives perfect,

Only issues being horn / steering wheel  buttons dont work, neither does the Cruise Control.

I assume they'll need some sort of coding?

Any help would be appreciated.

Horn not working is an MOT failure and means it is unroadworthy.

 

Sounds like the airbag has deployed, they may have replaced the AB unit, but not connected the steering wheel wiring back up, or it was damaged.

This is just from a bit of googling out of interest (so don't take this as gospel), but it sounds like the button modules are replacements and the car hasn't been told to expect replacements (if that makes sense).

 

Have you the information on why the car was registered as a Cat N and then what repairs were carried out on it? I'm just wondering if that steering wheel isn't the original one.

Yes, the MFSW Buttons need to be coded in. Your scan showed that the car wasn't expecting those buttons or the buttons haven't been enabled up. I suppose in my mind is whether the car is expecting that functionality or not. If they have been retrofitted then you may need to speak with @langers2ktto see if he has the coding for you or otherwise it might be worth paying for an hour on ODIS to get the Skoda chief tech to code the buttons back in.

Been driving it since the horn's been working, its flawless! Flew through MOT y'day, just recommended i change my rear tyres, as they are getting low.
