Boot Underfloor Panels

Featured Replies

Hi All, I have just bought my fiorst Skoda - a 2018 Octavia Estate....and have a conundrum that numorous Googling etc. hasn't enabled me to resolve.

In the boot, under the moveable floor, there are two plastic panels, one each side of the boot. These panels are secured by two round plastic 'buttons' that have torx heads. when these are fully screwed in, the panel doesn't sit flush, though if you press it in manually with your fingers, it does.

I have taken both panels off and checked nothing is broken - but it appears to me that the torx head buttons would never secure the panel flush - it's as though some part was missing. As I have no idea what the panel is called, or what part could be missing, searching on Google has proved fruitless.

I would be most grateful if someone could tell me how their cars covers are fixed, and or what these things are for? Are they just decorative?

From the photo it looks to be the support for the variofloor, if it were flush then the floor would fall down!

The aperture looks to be for the luggage lashing hook.

Editted, my suggestion is that the supports can be pushed back by hand if you remove the variofloor and want to use the full width to carry something.

Many thanks, JR.

Blimey !

I can't believe two things.....firstly that I have been that dumb and secondly that someone responded so quickly. I have jsut had a detailed look over the boot 'Variofloor' and it does appear that these are indeed supports for the floor - no idea why I didn't spot it the first time!

I've had Fords for so long, I will have to get used to the Skoda terminaology and way of doing things - which are totally new to me. Many thanks for you help.

No problem, I DIY my own variofloors using ones from MK1 Octavias and usually have to make or modify the side supports so am au fait with the details, from the photo thats what it looked like, if the edge of the variofloor was not visible I would not have realised.

It is a very clever innovation that gains 2" of width when the floor is not used, also it probably means that they can sell the variofloor alone without a fitting kit (side rails etc) that needs someone handy on the tools to fit.

Simply clever indeed!

Hence the phrase "Skoda, simply clever"

You have to push those parts in flush to allow the Variofloor to be lowered and dropped into its low position flush to the spare wheel or storage cubby holes

And more "Simply Clever"

Remove the covers you can see right and left in the recess's and then you can  store the retractable boot cover under the Variofloor. Then put the covers back on pull the variofloor across for a nice neat level boot floor.
