Bluefin / Superchips woes

Featured Replies

Looking for some advice, recently got myself a Bluefin remap (liked the convenience etc). Got it mapped and went for a little drive. All good.

next time I go out it’s flagged up the engine management light and start stop us failed etc.  Speak to Superchips who have sent an “updated” map. I put the car back to standard map in the mean time, but still got warnings and a rougher sounding idle.

is there any possibility the map altered something physical that hasn’t been changed back? Or more likely some on the car has broken (more power - slipped belt etc)

any thoughts would be great as it’s doing my head!

Do you have anything you can check for codes with? And also clear them. It may be that it's put itself in a sort of limp mode and it stuck in it until you clear the related code. It may run ok after that. Then maybe think about reloading the updated map.

Hiya,

Weirdly, it’s not in limp mode……

glow plug light only illuminations at approx mid temperature (70 degrees ish).

no fault codes stored either

So Superchips / Bluefin are the ones that offer a Warranty, that is on them coc-cking up.

So return with the car, and if they can not have it running right get the remap removed, do not mess about with stuff if the remap is the issue.

Get a refund.

EDIT, sorry, see running standard now.

?

So is it a TSI or a TDI,

if a TSI did you check and change the plugs before remapping and is it running on 99 ron Super Unleaded?

EDIT, So a TDI /Glow plugs.

??

Has it had a new Fuel Filter, and is it running an OEM Air Filter and is that clean?  ie, serviced well!

Super chips do offer a warranty…. IF you have manufacturers warranty left and your manufacturer don’t help - they will….

if it’s a 2015 as I understand they aren’t interested in helping sort a problem (I guess they can’t tell if it was there before or not?) (I had no fault lights etc before)

they have offered a refund on the bluefin but that’s about it.

it’s a Tdi, well serviced as far as I can tell. New belts etc when I bought it a few months ago…..

& the Warranty with the manufacturers does not help because a remap even removed is voiding the warranty.

& Superchips do not pay to repair cars, but then there is the Warranty.  I read the T&C's and have warned people over the years to as well.

Yeah, school boy error 😩

as far as I understand in the new cars they will help…..

either way I’m still up a tree without a paddle….

The bluefin handset acts as a fault code reader so you can use that to see what codes are stored.

It’s does, but it’s pretty basic. Initially bluefin produced the code P0016 (with the engine management light on) this generally Indcates crankshaft alignment when googled.

hooked it up to vdcs and it had engine speed sensors and two other codes.

now it displays no codes when used as a diagnosis tool……

friend with the full vdcs has gone on holiday 😩

Important point to bear in mind, whatever they tell you, whatever the sales pitch, no remapper will provide a warranty for damage to your engine for using their map. All they will do is warrant the map, nothing else. Caveat Emptor. I know, because I tried this out a few years ago when my turbo blew up, guess what, they weren't interested.

Take the refund and run.

How is the engine running now?

Been thinking about this after reading the updates. The engine might run rough because it is running from a zero setting with a few things after reinstalling the map. Components like the maf sensor and egr will need to re learn their adaption, as mine ran rough when I adapted the egr valve recently but then ran fine after it had finished.

That being said if the engine has slipped its timing it won't be the maps fault, as that cannot physically alter timing. If a component was failing it would have failed anyway at some point. The increase in power would have helped it on its way.

Hopefully you will get it sorted quickly.

I had a issue like this on my mk2 after a remap, used vcds to read and clear the faults and all was fine from then onwards

superchips are a big company. The do alot of r and d. Its not out of the realms of possibilty the fault was there before and its just highlighted it.

and as you've said the code reader is really basic. only vcds will help.

Superchips went bust early last year, taken over by Remap Kings, do a lot of the mobile remapping, I think are just using the name for marketing purposes, so any warranties have probably been watered down.
