Fab vRS Noises from front?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have noticed over a months worth of driving there seems to be familiar noise (like a soft thud) coming from the front (engine/transmission location) when moving of from standing start in first gear. It does not happen again after that, even if stop and move of in first.

Always happens after starting engine and moving of from stationary.

Please can anyone enlighten me on whether this is common feature for Fabia vRS?

Thanks,

Rich.

I'm certain this is the abs testing its self. When you move off for the first time after start up the abs will activate the brakes (AROUND 10MPH)to check out all the sensors etc. Normally its not that noticable........

OK HAVE JUST CHECK THE STANDARD FABIA MANUAL AND ON PAGE 99.....

"An automatic test procedure is carried out once the car has reached a speed of about 20km/h. A pump noise maybe audible for about 1 second during this check"

Can't say I've noticed this myself, but then my radio is usually on by the time I'm moving so I wouldn't hear it! :D

Andy,

Thanks for that hint, it looks like this seems the most likey cause. Yes the noise is subtle, if you turn on stereo and drive of - you don't notice this as much. I will keep an eye over this issue.

I've noticed a similar noise from my Octavia - usually around the same place every morning, just a short distance from the house. It's very quiet; inaudible if the radio is on (or if Mrs KLB is talking :) ) - took me ages to decide it was real, not imagined.

It's almost certainly some sort of self-test.

i also have a noise if i reverse then move forward i hear a clunk sound havent looked into it yet tho

latest from my Skoda Dealer, where I bought my car from, is that the noise is normal, it's supposed be the ABS system priming/testing itself automatically.

:)

Nice quick answer! I sometimes "test" the ABS myself just to check everything's still tight and there's no brake problems. If I get mild whiplash, and the bonnet dives into the ground, then I know all is well.

I also very rarely hear any clunks or strange squeaks from a standing start, also because the CD kicks in as soon as I start the engine. :D :speaker:

Me too.

Think it mentions something in the manual for it though.
