Specifiying a second driver on insurance

Featured Replies

One way that seems to help lower premiums is to add a person on as an additional driver. What info is needed to pass on? Do you need to know their no-claims? their driving liscence? or just their name an address?

Depends on which company is quoting...usually it just seems to be name, number of years licence held, relationship to policy holder, any claims/losses/convictions in the past x number of years...

I'm not sure that adding some random person is going to help ... but if they are your other half, having a stable home life is meant to suggest you are a lower insurance risk etc.

Mums or Dads (or slightly older spouses) with clean driving records are good to add on if you are under 30, as this can reduce your premium a little bit in my experience. I would imagine if you are 17 or 18 this could make a difference of hundreds.

Try it next time you renew your insurance, get the quote, then phone them back and get another quote with you + 1 parent added to the policy.
